摘要： A disposable carbide cutting blade assembly for a universal rotary molding cutter head. The assembly comprises a disposable carbide blade blank having its cutting surface contoured to the desired configuration, a smooth rear, bottom, and front surface, and a hole extending through the carbide blade blank. The carbide blank is positioned against a steel backer plate, which in turn is provided with a ledge for supporting the carbide blank from below, and a smooth front surface against which the rear surface of the carbide blank rests when in position. A safety pin protrudes from the front face of the steel backer plate, and extends into the hole within the carbide blank to properly seat the carbide blank against the steel backer plate. The rear surface of the steel backer plate is provided corrugations along its entire height for mating with the corrugations on the inner wall of a slot of a universal rotary cutter head. This simplified construction of the combined steel backer plate/carbide cutter blade assembly allows inexpensive carbide cutter blades with minimal machining to be used in universal cutting heads. This eliminates the need for costly and hazardous pre-machining or continuous sharpening of the cutting surface because the carbide blades can be easily replaced without incurring substantial expense.

The body portions bear, at a front face of the cutting head, a plurality of cutting inserts mounted so that their operative cutting edges lie substantially in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation. A first body portion bears a first outer cutting insert and a second body portion bears a second outer cutting insert. The operative cutting edge of the second outer cutting insert is substantially shorter than the operative cutting edge of the first outer cutting insert, and their outermost ends are substantially equidistant from the axis of rotation and are spaced therefrom at a distance defining a cutting radius of the cutting tool.

摘要： A self aligning knife clamping assembly and machine incorporating the same are disclosed. In one embodiment there is provided a knife clamping assembly having an upper clamping component, a lower clamping component and a fastening device, such as a bolt, therebetween, to permit the clamping components to be releasably clamped together onto a knife element having a knife edge. Positioned between the knife element and the clamping assembly is a biasing element, which urges the knife element to enter, or remain in, a preferred position prior to the knife element being immovably clamped into place. In the preferred embodiment the biasing element is in the form of an elastomeric strip.

The second side wall of the at least one arm of at least the male coupling member is oriented so that a normal thereto drawn from the longitudinal axis is not shorter than the radius of the circle inscribed in the central portion of the male coupling member.

The cutting element includes a base member substantially permanently fixable to the cutting member, and a cap member selectively engageable with the base member. The cap member has hooks that mechanically lock the cap member to the base member, so removal of the cap member during cutting motion is resisted mechanically. The cap member can be moved laterally of the base member for removal; and, a locking pin or screw selectively holds the cap member against such lateral motion.

The blade holder component incorporates an adjusting device having a resiliently deformable tongue which is defined by a single slot extending into the blade holder component from the zone of the blade-receiving recess. The tongue has a terminal portion including a support area for engaging the cutting blade received in the recess. A set screw passing through the tongue and traversing the slot is threadedly engaged in the blade holder component adjacent the tongue. By turning the set screw, the position of the resilient tongue is changed for altering the orientation of the cutting blade in the recess of the blade holder component.

摘要： A boring bar having a removable indexable cutting insert with a plurality of cutting edges is disclosed. The cutting insert is held in place in the bar by a locking finger on an insert clamp which is locked into place by a ball which is wedged against a release pin that engages the clamp. The ball may be moved so as to allow the pin to move, thereby releasing the force applied by the clamp whenever the insert is to be indexed or whenever a replacement of the insert is required. This is achieved by either manual or hydraulic control of a wedge shaft that engages the ball.
