Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes an operation unit, a management unit, a communication unit, a restricting unit, and a control unit. The operation unit receives an input signal based on a user input. The management unit manages a plurality of modes of the image forming apparatus. The plurality of modes includes a first mode and a second mode. The second mode is for remote maintenance. The communication unit transmits connection request data to a maintenance apparatus. The restricting unit restricts communication with an external apparatus. Upon receipt of the input signal, the control unit controls the management unit to shift a current mode of the image forming apparatus from the first mode to the second mode, controls the communication unit to transmit the connection request data to the maintenance apparatus, and controls the restricting unit to restrict the communication with the external apparatus.
Abstract:
A method in a system for sending a picture from an electronic mobile device to an electronic device is provided. The picture is to be sent over a wireless communications network. The system comprises the electronic mobile device, the wireless communications network, and the electronic device, and the electronic mobile device comprises a camera unit. The camera unit captures a high resolution picture. The electronic mobile device creates a low resolution picture based on the high resolution picture. The electronic mobile device sends the low resolution picture to the electronic device, and, when a quality of resources in the wireless communications network is above a threshold, sends the high resolution picture to at least one database for storage. Further, such a system is provided.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus determines a status when being activated, and reconfigures a circuit arrangement for executing a job that is highly likely to be instructed on a reconfigurable circuit. When a job is accepted, the image processing apparatus reconfigures, if the job is not executable by a circuit arrangement configured on the reconfigurable circuit, a circuit arrangement that is needed for executing the job on the reconfigurable circuit, and executes the accepted job.

Abstract:
An input-key control device is mounted on an apparatus having a plurality of operating modes and controls a plurality of input keys that receive input provided by a user. The input-key control device includes: a key-related-information storage unit that stores the operating modes and key-identifying information in association with each other, the key-identifying information being information for identifying an operable input key; an input-key identifying unit that identifies, when the operating mode is switched, an input key which has newly become operable as a result of the switching of the operating mode by comparing the key-identifying information associated with the operating mode before the switching and the key-identifying information associated with the operating mode after the switching; and a light-emission control unit that causes a lighting manner of a light-emitting element that illuminates the input key identified by the input-key identifying unit to differ.

Abstract:
In an image communication apparatus for communicating a color image with a distant apparatus according to the ITU-T recommendations upon line connection, an original image is read by a scanner unit, and the size of the read original image is identified. If the identified size of the original image is smaller than the page size defined by the ITU-U recommendation, image data is generated by reading the original image upon adding invalid data to the original image to make it have a main scanning length equal to the main scanning length of the minimum page size defined by the ITU-T recommendation in reading the original image through the scanner unit, and the image data is compressed by a JPEG compressing unit and transmitted. In this case, the valid image area of the compressed data is set in accordance with the size of the original image. This allows the receiving side to read only the valid image area, decode the valid image area, and reproduce the image.
Abstract:
A digital multifunction device is provided with RAM having a virtual drive area. The digital multifunction device enables a personal computer connected to and capable of communicating with the digital multifunction device via a USB interface to recognize this virtual drive area as an external storage device. When the personal computer writes image data to the virtual drive area, the digital multifunction device selectively executes one of an image forming process, fax transmitting process, and mail transmitting process based on the type of folder in which the image data is written. Accordingly, image data in a first folder is printed on recording paper, or image data in a second folder is transmitted to an external facsimile machine.
Abstract:
A digital still camera includes connection unit establishing connection with an external device; connection detection unit of detecting that the connection unit is connected to the external device and that the connection is released; an electronic viewfinder; a liquid crystal monitor allowing images to be observed from outside; first controller of shifting to a transfer mode and transmitting image data to the external device when the connection detection unit detects the connection, as well as controlling so that display of the image data is switched from the electronic viewfinder to the liquid crystal monitor.
