    摘要: An inseparable assembly includes a body having a plurality of plies stacked in face to face relation and bonded together, wherein each of the plurality of plies includes a ceramic matrix composite material having a first predetermined ductility. The assembly further includes a reinforcement including a metallic wire mesh bonded to said body so that at least a portion of the metallic wire mesh is positioned between two adjacent plies in the body. The metallic wire mesh has a second predetermined ductility greater than the first ductility.

    摘要: A jet engine nozzle having a pair of pivoting extension arms and a pair of pivoting shells connected to a jet pipe is provided. The first extension arm is pivotally connected to the jet pipe at a first location, while the second extension arm is pivotally connected to the jet pipe at a second location. Each shell is pivotally connected at both the first and second locations. An axis of rotation associated with the first location is coaxial to an axis of rotation associated with the second location. Independent actuation means are provided to rotate the extension arms and the shells, thereby enabling adjustment of the thrust-vector angle or the exhaust area of the nozzle.

The seal system includes a backbone and an attachment assembly. The attachment assembly frictionally engages the backbone to secure the attachment assembly to the backbone. The attachment assembly includes a plurality of clamp sub-assemblies and base sheet fabricated from a ceramic matrix composite material. The clamp sub-assemblies are clamped through openings extending through the base sheet, such that a predetermined amount of preload force is applied to the base sheet.

    摘要: A vectorable nozzle mounting for an engine installation in a VSTOL aircraft in which hot gas nozzles are mounted on the airframe is described. A swivelable nozzle is mounted by means of a bearing on an intermediate fixed member such as a mounting ring on the airframe. The hot exhaust gas is discharged into the nozzle through a stub duct carried by the engine casing. Misalignment and movement between the duct and the nozzle is accommodated by movable sealing rings carried in the intermediate member which engage the outer surface of the duct. The sealing rings are spaced apart to form an annular chamber which is supplied with cooling air at a higher pressure than the pressure in the exhaust duct. The cooling air is arranged to cool the nozzle bearing and leakage passed the seals is of cooling air into the nozzle thus excluding hot exhaust gas from the engine bay.

    摘要: A seal assembly is provided between an exhaust flap and a nozzle sidewall of a gas turbine engine exhaust nozzle. The assembly includes a housing fixedly joined to the exhaust flap and a plurality of adjoining plungers slidably disposed in the housing and each including a top extending outside a housing opening for defining a seal line for contacting the nozzle sidewall for sealing the exhaust gases from flowing therebetween. The seal lines collectively define a seal first contour being complementary to a first contour of the nozzle sidewall. A tie rod extends through the plungers and joins the plungers to the housing. The tie rod is flexible for allowing the plungers to rotate perpendicularly to the tie rod so that the seal lines collectively form a seal second contour, different than the seal first contour, to conform to a second contour of the nozzle sidewall which is different than the nozzle sidewall first contour.
