A method and apparatus for separating an uncontaminated portion of a seed cotton module from a water-contaminated face stratum are disclosed. The technique includes conveying a contaminated cotton module toward a housing having a plurality of rotating fiber release bodies mounted therein. The housing and the conveyor are arranged for relative movement so that only the uncontaminated portion of the module is fed into the fiber release bodies while the contaminated face stratum passes beneath the bodies. The uncontaminated cotton is collected and conveyed to a cotton gin and the contaminated cotton is conveyed to a disposal location.

A method of operating a bale opener arranged for alternating forward and reverse travel along a series of fiber bales and having an opening device including an opening roll for removing fiber tufts from top faces of the fiber bales. The opening roll has unidirectionally inclined teeth. The opening device further has a grate arranged for pressing down on the top faces of the fiber bales and formed of grate bars between which the teeth of the opening roll project. The method includes the following consecutive steps: lowering the opening device immediately prior to a forward working pass, whereby the opening roll executes a downward feed motion; moving the opening device in a forward travelling direction for causing an execution of the forward working pass; and moving the opening device, without an immediately preceding lowering thereof, in a rearward travelling direction for causing an execution of a reverse working pass.

An apparatus for receiving loosely aggregated filamentary material, such as Easter grass, and producing, at a substantially uniform rate, weighed charges of the filamentary material. The apparatus comprises scales to weigh the charges to preselected weights, blowers to provide a stream of the filamentary material to the scales, conduits to convey the material from the outlet of the blowers to the scales, and a magazine which receives material charges at irregular intervals and dispenses the same charges at a substantially uniform rate.

A flock extraction apparatus includes a pair of ducts which extend along a track for conveying fiber flock and a diverter chamber at one end of the ducts for directing the flock into one or the other of a pair of transport ducts extending from the diverter chamber. Plates are used to block communication between the diverter chamber and the respective transport ducts as well as to sub-divide the diverter chamber for communication with a respective duct extending along the track.
摘要:
Bales of filamentary material are separated into weighed charges of the material by disintegrating the bales in a rotating drum to produce tufts that are passed to a picking chamber wherein a toothed roll strips individual filaments from a supply roll formed from the tufts and passing the filaments to scales upon which the charges are accumulated. Each time a charge is accumulated on a scale, air is blown across the scale to discharge the scale. The charges are delivered to a magazine having a plurality of vertically stacked chambers, each chamber underlain by a movable gate, through which the charges are passed sequentially to be discharged at a fixed schedule from the lowermost chamber. Spikes mounted on the interior of the drum are shaped to loosen portions of bales entering the drum, tear tufts from such portions, and finally deposit the tufts into an air stream passing through the drum to expel the tufts. Between the drum and the picking chamber, the tufts are treated with an anti-static compound in a chamber through which the tufts fall while a mist of the compound is injected into the chamber. Above the picking chamber, the tufts enter a deflection tower and are deflected to one side or the other of the picking chamber to concentrate the supply roll at one side of the picking chamber and filaments to each of two scales are drawn from opposite sides of the picking chamber.

From a device (46) for opening pressed bales of fiber material set up in a row (39, 40), the opened fiber material is conveyed pneumatically (55) to a hopper feeder (1). A receiving chamber (13) and upwardly extending inclined spiked feed lattice (3) are provided in hopper feeder (1) for delivering fiber to a processing machine via outlet (8). The delivery of the fiber material, removed continuously from the row of bales, to receiving chamber (13) of hopper feeder (1) is performed transversely to the latter, and in parallel to spiked feed lattice (3). In another embodiment a filling chamber (13a) may be advantageously compartmentalized by transverse walls (57, 58) and provided with a bottom conveyor (56). Fiber is removed in a height direction from a longitudinal face of the fiber bed formed in filling chamber (13a) of fiber feeding device (19).

An apparatus includes a fiber tuft feeder with discharge rollers for delivering a fiber tuft mass; a drive motor connected to the discharge rollers; a feeding device arranged for advancing fiber material obtained from the tuft feeder; and a textile processing machine having an input arranged to receive fiber material from the feeding device. An opening roller forms part of the tuft feeder and is arranged downstream of the discharge rollers for receiving fiber material from the discharge rollers and to advance fiber tufts. Devices produce a loose fiber tuft mass from the fiber tufts delivered by the opening roller, form a thin fiber lap from the loose mass and advance the fiber lap to the feeding device. A sensor is situated upstream of the textile processing machine for detecting fluctuations in quantity characteristics of the advancing fiber lap, and a transducer is connected to the sensor for generating electric signals representing the fluctuations. A regulator is connected to the transducer and the drive motor for regulating the rpm thereof as a function of the electric signals.

In order to extract fiber flocks from individual textile fiber bale groups with a substantially constant extraction power independently of density variation distribution over the bale height, the individual bale groups are subdivided into a plurality of height zones exhibiting different densities of fiber material. Then, an extracting member provided with a rotating extraction head is moved through the upper zone with a relatively large penetration depth, while the penetration depth is gradually reduced during the movement of the extracting member through the next lower zone until the penetration depth desired for the next following lower zone is reached, from which point this penetration depth is maintained until reaching the lowermost zone during the movement through which the penetration depth is again gradually increased until the last layer to be extracted is reached. A control system for performing the above method includes a microprocessor which stores the inputted desired number of passes and penetration depths for the definition of the zones, and controls the movement of the extraction member accordingly.

A method of selectively supplying fiber material from an output of a fiber bale opener to a plurality of fiber processing lines each formed of a series of fiber processing machines, includes the steps of removing fiber by the bale opener sequentially from bales of different fiber types; supplying predetermined fiber processing lines with predetermined types of fiber by the bale opener; sensing a fiber quantity requirement of the fiber processing line while being supplied with fiber by the bale opener while the latter simultaneously performs fiber removal from the bales of a predetermined fiber type; interrupting the fiber removal at that location of the bale opener where it is situated when the fiber processing line then supplied with fiber, signals satisfaction of fiber requirement; and resuming fiber removal of the predetermined fiber type at the mentioned location upon a signal for fiber requirement by the fiber processing line supplied at the time of interruption.
