Abstract:
It is disclosed a process for preparing a removable sleeve to be photoengraved, for use in printing presses, which sleeve is obtained by immersion of a cylinder in a copper-electroplating tank to generate the sleeve itself, and separation of the cylinder is obtained either by an extraction tooling or with use of a metal ring for closure of the holes for air admission, which are designed to create an air cushion enabling easy removal.
Abstract:
The present invention provides several methods for engraving gravure cylinders much more rapidly and at a higher resolution while, at the same time, reducing the engraving cost. The present invention employs a resist that is deposited onto the surface of a gravure cylinder. The resist is capable of being physically and/or chemically changed in response to being exposed to a form of actinic energy, such as a laser beam. The exposed areas of resist allow a material, such as chromium, to be plated onto the surface of the gravure cylinder to form walls that define cells therebetween. In use, the cells contain ink for printing the desired patterns of text and/or images.
Abstract:
A printing sleeve for a rotogravure or flexo printing roll is provided thatas a slightly conical or tapered geometry wherein the inner diameter at one end is slightly smaller than the inner diameter at a second end. Similarly, the printing roll is provided with a slightly conical geometry or tapered diameter as well wherein the outside diameter at one end is slightly smaller than the outside diameter at the other end. The larger end of the printing sleeve is mounted over the smaller end of the printing roll and the sleeve is pushed forward either manually or mechanically until the larger end of the printing sleeve is disposed over the larger end of the printing roll. A key/slot combination may be provided on the inside surface of the printing sleeve and outside surface of the printing roll to ensure proper alignment. An apparatus also is provided for mounting a printing sleeve over a printing roll which includes two support bearings for mounting the opposing ends of the printing roll or printing axle. A clamp is provided to positively clamp the larger end of the printing roll against its respective support bearing. A support arm is further provided to balance the printing roll thereby enabling the lowering or release of the support bearing supporting the opposing end of the printing roll. After the sleeve has been partially inserted over the printing roll, the support bearing is then raised and the support arm is released. Then, a push adaptor is provided for forcing the printing sleeve in place over the printing roll with a predetermined amount of force.
Abstract:
For the register of a sleeve-shaped offset priming form in which the beginning and end of the plate-shaped blank of the printing form are connected by a weld seam, a guide element in the form of a projection is provided for the sleeve at the inside of the sleeve. A form cylinder which can be used in combination with the sleeve has a groove extending along its entire width, which groove has a depth that is greater than the height of the projection. The projection can be inserted completely into the groove so that the sleeve can be secured on the form cylinder in the circumferential direction.
