Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a system and method for monitoring the performance of a heat exchanger. In accordance with the system and method, baseline values of a performance factor (E) for baseline sets of heat exchanger operating values are calculated and stored. A current value of E is calculated for a current set of the operating values and is compared to a retrieved baseline value of E for a baseline set of the operating values that at least substantially matches the current set of the operating values. E provides a measure of the performance of the heat exchanger and is calculated using differential temperatures across the heat exchanger and without using any information concerning the physical construction of the heat exchanger.
Abstract:
The compilation of product and component quality and tracking data for a manufactured device is facilitated. Software modules are provided that collect and transmit data regarding components, products, assembly, and testing to a central database for compilation, storage, and maintenance. A graphical user interface may be provided to assist a user in collecting data. Each module desirably collects one or more pieces of information at various stages during the product manufacturing. Devices such as bar code readers, force gauge meters, etc. can have their “readout” values captured seamlessly and automatically to update the electronic model (stored information) of the product being manufactured. This allows for additional and more accurate quality data to be collected without additional time or effort during manufacturing.
Abstract:
A digital serial communications hub has the ability to delay, route and regenerate data on the fly at mixed baud rates, mixed character framing bits, and mixed protocols without prior setup. In addition, the communications hub stores and retrieves serial data in the time domain, and employs a simple and reliable error correction routine that takes advantage of the time domain format of the data. Physically, the communications hub is implemented as a circuit card integrating a central processor with several serial communications ports. The serial ports connect to a combination of electrical interfaces that include RS232, RS485, TTL, and Fiber Optic. The serial communication ports are routed through a central flow processor that controls data flow into and out of the circuit card via serial communications connectors.
Abstract:
A powder paint color changer features a single cleaning fluid port at one end of the color changer manifold for direction of cleaning fluid, such as pressurized air, through the main output interior chamber of the color changer manifold thence through a supply hose which is adapted for coupling to a paint application device. Additionally, the powder paint color changer manifold includes a replaceable insert of impact fusion resistant material which defines the surface of the manifold's interior cavity.
Abstract:
A signal processing technique that allows the flame signal from a first source of flame and the flame signal from a second source of flame to be discriminated from each other when only both the first and second flame signals are viewed by the same flame scanner. The signal from the flame scanner is processed to enhance one or more of the attributes associated with the first flame and is simultaneously processed to enhance one or more attributes associated with the second flame.
Abstract:
An end effector for a robot is used to unpack flattened stackable items from a container using a fixed sized vacuum plenum and simple adjustable gripping elements. The gripping elements comprise a pair of adjustable, smooth blades. In addition, the end effector includes mechanisms for retaining and transporting the container.
Abstract:
A frame work for storing, retrieving and displaying real-time data. The frame work includes software known as tools for data acquisition, that is, logging, file conversion and data analysis/display. Scalar and array type data are simultaneously handled during data logging and further processing. The data logging tool creates short term data in a binary file format and the file conversion software acquires long term data from the short-term data. Process condition based conversion and periodic conversion are also included in the architecture. Each of the three components of the frame work allows for user selection of parameters to maximize the benefit of the tools. The data display component offers automatic or user input based switching between the live data (online) and history data (offline) modes according to computational intensity.
Abstract:
An intelligent automatic bypass for a motor control device determines if a fault that is occurring in the motor control device is a restricted or non-restricted fault. A restricted fault is one that may damage or destroy the motor if an automatic switch to bypass is allowed to occur for all faults that occur in the motor control device. The intelligent automatic bypass allows the automatic switch to bypass only if the fault is a non-restricted fault and blocks the automatic switch to bypass if the fault is a restricted fault.
Abstract:
A preferred process comprises providing a pre-formed, substantially transparent window for a cover of an electrical-energy meter, and molding the cover from a molten resin that, when solidified, is substantially opaque. Molding the cover from a molten resin comprises causing a portion of the molten resin to contact a periphery of the window and allowing the portion of the molten resin to cool and thereby solidify so that the portion of the molten resin, upon solidifying, is molded over the periphery of the window and thereby seals and secures the window to the cover.
Abstract:
Methodologies adjust a component failure rate for electric power network reliability analysis. A component may include subcomponents and the failure of each subcomponent may be feature dependent. Features are measurable or observable inputs, which can affect the life of one or more subcomponents. The failure rate of a particular component may be obtained according to its real conditions. The methodologies can be used to do condition-based reliability analysis for electric power networks, in order to obtain a maintenance/replacement/operation strategy.
