摘要: A photosensitive apparatus, such as scanner, includes a plurality of pixels, each pixel having associated therewith a set of photosensors, each photosensor filtered to record a primary color. The photosensors are exposed to light of each primary color separately, thereby deriving test signals. A cross-color correction factor for the pixel is derived from the test signals. The cross-color correction factor is used in processing signals output from the pixel when an image is being recorded, so as to isolate the effects of signal crosstalk between closely-spaced photosensors of different colors.

摘要: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for segmenting an image using a combination of image segmentation techniques. More particularly, the invention is directed to an improved image segmentation technique for use in an image processing system that performs at least two distinct image segmentation processes on an image and combines the results to obtain a combined multi-layer representation of the image that can be suitably processed. In a specific example, a block based segmentation technique is performed on an image to generate a MRC (mixed raster content) representation—having foreground, background and selector layers. A pixel based segmentation technique is also performed on the image to generate rendering hints. The MRC representation and the rendering hints are then combined to obtain a four (4) layer representation of the image. The four layer representation is subsequently processed as required by the image processing system, e.g. compressed and stored.

摘要: A system for generating a warped contone image that compensates for beam scan trajectory distortions. The system includes an image buffer for storing a portion of a received contone image. An interpolation coefficient generator provides interpolation coefficients associated with a warped pixel within the warped contone image in response to an input identifying the warped pixel. A pixel interpolator is coupled to the image buffer and the interpolation coefficient generator and provides an output signal that identifies the warped pixel within the warped contone image. The pixel interpolator further retrieves pixels from the contone image stored in the image buffer using the interpolation coefficients and generates the warped pixel by combining the retrieved pixels into a single pixel value.

摘要: A method of neutral color detection for use in color copiers and scanners is provided. The method includes reading (10) an input page. The contents of the page are detected (12) and it is determined (14) if the page is neutral in color. If the page is not neutral in color (20), the page is then divided into a number of regions (30). Each region is then detected (40), and a determination (42) is made if individual regions are neutral in color. Next, details located outside regions determined to be neutral in color are detected (70) and it is determined (72) if the details are neutral in color. This multi-resolution technique permits the full page, an individual region, and/or particular details to be processed without the constraints, limitations, and reproduction demands associated with their color counterparts.

摘要: A method and system takes advantage of both lossy and lossless compression techniques to increase processing speed and efficiency, and to decrease required image storage space. In the system and method, the input image data is divided into pixel blocks. Segmentation tags are used to determine if pixel block contains sharply defined images, such as text or low frequency halftone. If the answer is “no,” i.e., a selected or predetermined number of the pixels are not classified as text or low frequency halftone, or the pixels classified as text or low frequency halftone occur only in selected or predetermined areas of the block, then lossy compression is performed on the pixel block. An artificial block is generated and losslessly compressed. The artificial block includes pixels having values that will be losslessly compressed by a large compression ratio. If the answer is “yes,” i.e., there are at least the selected or predetermined number of pixels in the pixel block that should be processed as text or low frequency halftone, and/or the pixels classified as text or low frequency halftone do not occur in the selected or predetermined areas of the pixel block, then that block is sent to a buffer to be losslessly compressed. An artificial block is generated and lossy compressed. The artificial block includes pixels having values that will be lossy compressed by a large compression ratio.

摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for detecting the presence of image regions requiring compact dot growth control and controlling the dot growth of such regions when rendered on a printing system. The invention operates to recognize those pixels within a bitmap image that are appropriate for alteration, using a template-based approach, and then alters the exposure pulse of identified pixels during imaging so as to assure a more stable output by a xerographic development system.

摘要: Improvements in bit-image quality in printing systems is achieved by providing several different pattern matching processors. Each pattern matching processor comprises a lookup table of patterns and corresponding replacement image patterns. A source image is modified by replacing areas in the source image that match patterns with the corresponding image patterns. Pattern matching processors are chosen depending on: the type of image being processed, input from the operator (user), feedback from the xerographic processor, and the color of the image. A user interface is provided which allows a user to download template and pattern data for each pattern matching processor. Pattern matching can be used to correct single-bit, half-bit, line-growth, xerographic effects and aliasing errors, and to provide control of print quality to the user.

摘要: A multi-function reproduction apparatus selectively operable to either copy, write, or read. For reading, the image to be read is processed xerographically to provide a developed image on the apparatus photoconductive member which is raster scanned with a high intensity beam. Light reflected from the photoconductive member is captured in an elongated rod-like collector disposed proximate the photoconductive member and transmitted axially along the collector rod to a light detector at one end where the light is converted to an electrical image signal or pixel by the detector. The intensity of the beam is regulated to assure a uniform light intensity at the detector irrespective of the distance through which the light travels within the collector rod.
