    Abstract: A wavelength tunable light source has a light source, a wavelength monitor circuit that receives a portion of light emitted from the light source, and a processor that controls a wavelength of the light emitted from the light source based upon an output value of the wavelength monitor circuit, wherein the wavelength monitor circuit has a wavelength filter that outputs four light components with optical phases shifted by 90 degrees from one another and multiple photo detectors that detects the four light components output from the wavelength filter, and wherein the processor selects at least one of the four light components, calculates a ratio of a monitor value of the selected light component to a total sum of monitor values of the four light components, and adjusts the wavelength of the light source so as to bring the ratio to be closer to a target ratio at a designated wavelength.

    Abstract: A first circuit board has an electrode pattern, a ground pattern, a first through hole, and a second through hole. The first through hole penetrates through the electrode pattern. The second through hole penetrates through the ground pattern. A second circuit board has a signal line, an electrode terminal, and a ground terminal. The electrode terminal is extended from the signal line, and is electrically connected to the electrode pattern with the electrode terminal being inserted into the first through hole.     Abstract: An optical modulator includes a substrate, an electrode, and an optical waveguide. The substrate includes a flat portion and a protruding portion protruded from the flat portion. The electrode is supported by the protruding portion. The optical waveguide is formed inside the protruding portion and waveguides light to be modulated with a voltage applied to the electrode. The protruding portion contains a part, present on the side of the electrode, of a light distribution region over which the light waveguided by the optical waveguide is distributed. A height of a tip of the protruding portion from the flat portion is smaller than a width of the light distribution region along a protruding direction of the protruding portion. A width of the tip of the protruding portion is smaller than a width of the light distribution region along a direction perpendicular to the protruding direction of the protruding portion.

    Abstract: An optical device includes a modulator and a tap coupler. The modulator includes an optical waveguide that is formed of a thin-film lithium niobate (LN) substrate and through which light passes, and an electrode that applies voltage to the optical waveguide, and modulates a phase of light that passes through the optical waveguide in accordance with an electric field in the optical waveguide, where the electric field corresponds to the voltage. The tap coupler includes at least a part formed of the thin-film LN substrate, and splits a part of the light that passes through an inside of the optical waveguide. The tap coupler includes a delayed interferometer that splits a part of the light that passes through the optical waveguide, at a split ratio corresponding to a phase difference of light that passes through an inside of the tap coupler from the optical waveguide.
