    Abstract: A hard-packaged safety needle device comprises a needle hub having a needle cannula extending therefrom and a hard needle enclosure including a needle cover and a cap. The needle cover has an elongated body and a ribbed surface configured to create an interference fit with a proximal portion of the hub. The cap includes a body having an open distal end, a closed proximal end, and a cavity defined by the open distal end and the closed proximal end, the open distal end of the cap abutting an open proximal end of the needle cover.

    Abstract: Disinfection cap includes housing comprising closed top, essentially cylindrical sidewall, and open bottom formed by the sidewall with opening to inner cavity within the housing for receiving tip including mating feature of needleless connector. Disinfection sponge can be configured within inner cavity, removable cover sealing opening to inner cavity to seal sponge within inner cavity prior to cap use. Inner cavity includes at least one thread on inner surface of its sidewall that does not correspond to the mating feature of needleless connector, but is sufficient to interlock with mating feature of needleless connector. Plurality of disinfection caps are disposed on strip of IV pole hanging device such that each cap can be peeled off the strip unsealed for immediate use, or separated from the strip sealed for later use.

    Abstract: A needle shield assembly comprises an elongate needle shield comprising a shield portion, a hub connection portion and a bridge portion including a living hinge having a thickness, the bridge portion joining the hub connection portion and the shield portion, the hub connection portion comprising a receiving ring having a diameter sized to frictionally receive the hub outer surface when the needle assembly is inserted through the receiving ring and a flange extending from the receiving ring defining a top planar surface and a bottom surface. The thickness of the flange divided by the thickness of the living hinge defines a ratio of from 1.1 to 6. The shield portion is configured to pivot from an open position in which the needle cannula is exposed, to a closed needle protecting position in which the distal end of the needle cannula is within the longitudinal opening of the shield.

    Abstract: A cap is described for connection to a medical connector, the cap includes a housing having a top wall and sidewall forming a first cavity, and a removable or integrally formed protrusion. The protrusion includes an inner thread on an inner surface, the inner thread being sufficient to interlock with a mating feature of a female needleless connector. The inner surface of the protrusion defines a second cavity. The protrusion includes an outer thread on an outer surface, the outer thread being sufficient to interlock with a mating feature of a male needleless connector. The second cavity configured to define a chamber to contain an absorbent material and disinfectant or antimicrobial agent. The cap may also include a peel seal and/or septum to prevent the disinfectant or the antimicrobial agent from exiting the second cavity. An exterior sidewall surface of the housing may include a plurality of grip members.

    Abstract: A universal cap for connection to medical connectors facilitates easier cap alignment and engagement with threaded male or female Luer medical connectors and enhanced connector disinfection. A split-collar protrusion projects axially from a closed end wall of the cap towards the open bottom and comprises at least an opposed pair of parallel, sector-shaped, collet fingers/prongs that terminate in protrusion tips. The inner wall of each collet finger respectively defines a split-flange cantilever. Inner and outer walls of each collet finger define split threads, which are respectively sized for mating engagement with respective corresponding threads of Luer connectors. An antibacterial infused absorbent material is oriented between the split flanges and the cap bottom. As the cap is affixed to a Luer connector, absorbent material compression biases the split flanges and deflects the collet fingers/prongs, for easier cap alignment and engagement with Luer medical connectors and enhanced connector disinfection.
