    摘要: One embodiment of the present invention provides a universal remote control, which includes a display screen and a user input mechanism. The universal remote control also includes a processing unit that is configured to display information on the display screen and to accept selection data from the user input mechanism. The universal remote control additionally includes a wireless communication mechanism that is configured to provide communications between the processing unit and an appliance or computer program running on a computer system. The appliance provides information to be displayed on the display screen, and information entered through the user input mechanism is communicated to the appliance. Since the appliance provides the information to be displayed on the display screen and also interprets the entries on the input mechanism, the universal remote control needs no special knowledge about the appliance.

    摘要: A remote controller apparatus has a controller body, which is provided with annularly disposed display devices displaying as images operating buttons for the purpose of executing functions of a remotely controlled apparatus, and which is further provided with a display device at the center of the annularly disposed display devices. Operating switches are provided below each of the display devices, a transparent shuttle ring is disposed over the annularly disposed display devices, and a transparent center button is provided over the display device at the center. The shuttle ring is caused to rotate, and if necessary operating buttons displayed by each of the display devices are switched to other operating buttons. By doing this, it is possible to assign images of various operating buttons for executing functions of a remotely controlled apparatus to the display devices of the remote controller apparatus, which display this operating buttons, and also possible for a user to operate operating buttons without being aware of which operating buttons correspond to which operations. Additionally, the need to assign more than one operation to one button is eliminated, and it is possible to avoid an excessive increase in the number of operating buttons.

    摘要: A code modulation and demodulation method includes removing a DC component of a code stream to be modulated when source data is recorded on an optical information storage medium and controlling a suppression of the DC component contained in the code stream when the source data is converted into a codeword to be recorded on an optical information storage medium. The method includes determining a control timing to suppress the DC component of the code stream to which the source data are converted, performing a code conversion at each control time for the DC component so that the code stream branches into a pair of branch code streams one of which extends in a direction where a running digital sum (RDS) of the code stream increases, and another one of which extends in the direction where the RDS of the code stream decreases, and selecting the path of the code stream that has a most bounded path around RDS null0null from the paths of the branch code streams each control time. By performing a regular DC suppression control when the source data is converted, and by selecting one of the branch code streams when the DC suppression control is performed, more DC components in the code stream can be effectively removed.

Finally, a wireless signal emitter, such as infrared (IR) signal emitter is used to modulate the retrieved remote-control command code into an IR signal and emitting the IR signal to the electrical apparatuses to cause one or more of the electrical apparatuses to operate accordingly.
