摘要:
Recovery time upon the failure of a link or switching system in an asynchronous data network can be minimized if downstream data switches provide upstream messages indicating to upstream switching system that the downstream traffic arrived in tact and was properly handled. Upon this loss or failure of the upstream status message to an upstream switching system, an upstream switching system can reroute data traffic around a failed link or failed switch with a minimal amount of lost data. The upstream status message is conveyed from a downstream switching system to an upstream switching system via a reverse notification tree data pathway.

An apparatus and method for policy routing is provided. The method includes: A. configuring a policy routing to a label switching path and obtaining and saving forwarding information; and B. performing packet forwarding based on the forwarding information. The apparatus includes: a label switching path managing unit, for saving first forwarding information of the label switching path; a route managing unit, for saving second forwarding information of the label switching path; a configuring unit, for transmitting configuration parameters to the label switching path managing unit, and obtaining the first and/or second forwarding information of the label switching path from the label switching path managing unit and/or route managing unit; a forwarding information maintenance unit, for maintaining the first and second forwarding information of the label switching path saved in a node of policy; and a packet forwarding unit, together with the forwarding information maintenance unit, for forwarding the packet, which solves the problem that the prior art couldn't well support strategic route for a MPLS packet.

A first Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Internet Protocol (IP) data network transmits data to a second MPLS IP network via a legacy network, which would not otherwise be able to handle the required user network interface (UNI) protocol by configuring the legacy network and its network management system (TNMS) so that they emulate an MPLS network. When a first network element (NE) receives a connection (UNI) request from the MPLS network under a UNI protocol, the UNI request is passed to the TNMS, which then sets the required connection across the legacy network via a second edge NE to an NE of the second network. Once the connection has been set, the TNMS instructs the edge NE to send a return signal to the requesting network indicating that the connection has been successfully set. Data packets may then be transmitted across the network.

An embodiment includes encoding, into a resource reservation signaling message, (i) a group identifier assigned to a group of pseudo point-to-point connections established between a root node and at least one leaf node and (ii) a sub-group identifier assigned to a sub-group of pseudo point-to-point connections out of the group of pseudo point-to-point connections. The sub-group of pseudo point-to-point connections share a common network tunnel established between a previous signaling hop and a next signaling hop. The method further includes aggregating, into the resource reservation signaling message, resource reservation signaling related to the sub-group of pseudo point-to-point connections based on the group identifier and the sub-group identifier. The resource reservation signaling message is then exchanged between the previous signaling hop and the next signaling hop.

The reverse notification pathway is established by using a messaging protocol between network switches by which the working and protection paths, among other things, are established.

A method and system for switching the serving services of virtual private LAN is provided. When a fault occurs on a normal service transmission path, a PE device on the secondary path transmits a message including an information of the failure device on the normal service transmission path to the other PE devices on the path to indicate the path switching; the other PE devices replace the faulty PE device corresponding to the transmission path item in VPLS transmission table as the PE device on the secondary path according to the received message for indicating the path switching. Using the present invention, when an access device detects a fault, the VPLS service can switch to the secondary path immediately without affecting other services; because the VPLS messages do not need to be broadcasted during path switching, the network bandwidth will not be wasted.

A method is provided for communicating between first and second routers, the routers being part of a packet-switched network. The method includes a stage of transmitting data over a pseudowire set up between the first and second routers, the data being transmitted in accordance with a parameter of the pseudowire. The method includes at least one step of sending a modification request message of the parameter at the initiative of one of the two routers, to the other router, and during the stage of transmission over the pseudowire. Also, a method is provided for processing data transmitted over such a pseudowire. The method includes a stage of transmission of data over the pseudowire, the data being transmitted in accordance with a parameter of the pseudowire. The method includes, during the transmission stage, at least one of the routers receiving a modification request message of the parameter of the pseudowire.

When a network apparatus of this invention receives an IEEE 802.3ad link application control packet from a subscriber line with a VPWS function, it processes the packet in a control unit without relaying the packet by VPWS. More specifically, the network apparatus receives an IEEE802.3ad link aggregation control packet along with receiving an IEEE802.3x flow control packet. The network apparatus transmits a link aggregation control packet. The network apparatus also relays other layer 2 control protocol packets without receiving them, and does not transmit the other layer 2 control protocol packets.

Mechanisms for measuring network availability are described. A first network element produces a first knowledge digest encoding the first set of forwarding policy indicators associated with a set of packets into a fixed length bit array. The first network element periodically sends probe messages containing the knowledge digest to a second network element. The second network element produces a second knowledge digest encoding a second set of forwarding policy indicators into a fixed length bit array. The second network element compares the first knowledge digest to the second knowledge digest to determine whether the first set of forwarding policy indicators is a subset of the second set of forwarding policy indicators. The second network element indicates the availability of the path as long as probe messages are received from the first network element.

A method and apparatus are provided for creating a virtual hierarchical local area network. The method and apparatus provide a hierarchical framing technique that allows a network architecture to realize a local area network hierarchy within the network. In this manner, a first local area network hierarchy is defined by communication in a first frame format between a first set of network devices and a second set of network devices. A second local area network hierarchy is defined by communication in a second frame format between members of the second set of network devices. The second frame format includes the fields of a frame in the first frame format that is used to communicate between the first set of communication devices and the second set of communication devices.
