Abstract: A radiographic image diagnostic apparatus according to embodiments includes an X-ray tube, a holding member, and coil control circuitry. The X-ray tube includes: a cathode that emits electrons; coils that generate electromagnetic force; and an anode that rotates about a rotation axis in response to the electromagnetic force and to generate an X-ray by receiving the electrons. The holding member holds the X-ray tube so that the X-ray tube is movable. The coil control circuitry controls a current to be supplied to the coils based on at least one of a position of the X-ray tube, a direction of the X-ray tube, or a velocity of the X-ray tube.

Abstract: The embodiments relate to a rotary anode arrangement with a rotary anode, a rotor for driving the rotary anode and a stator, which exerts a torque on the rotor. The stator includes at least one coil for generating a first magnetic field and at least one permanent magnet for generating a second magnetic field. The embodiments also relate to an X-ray tube with the rotary anode arrangement. The embodiments offer the advantage that a high electromagnetic utilization is possible with a synchronous motor that is excited by permanent magnets.

Abstract: The X-ray tube having a rotating and linearly translating anode includes an evacuated shell having a substantially cylindrical anode rotatably mounted therein. The substantially cylindrical anode may be rotated through the usage of any suitable rotational drive, and the substantially cylindrical anode is further selectively and controllably linearly translatable about the rotating longitudinal axis thereof. A cathode is further mounted within the evacuated shell for producing an electron beam that impinges on an outer surface of the substantially cylindrical anode, thus forming a focal spot thereon. X-rays are generated from the focal spot and are transmitted through an X-ray permeable window formed in the evacuated shell.

Abstract: An x-ray tube includes a housing enclosing a vacuum chamber, a cathode positioned within the vacuum chamber configured to emit electrons, and an anode positioned within the vacuum chamber to receive the electrons emitted from the cathode and generate a beam of x-rays from the electrons. The x-ray tube also includes a magnetic coupler drive configured to rotate the anode, with the magnetic coupler drive having an inner rotor frame positioned within the vacuum chamber and an outer rotor frame positioned outside the vacuum chamber and adjacent the inner rotor frame. The magnetic coupler drive also includes an inner rotor magnet mounted to the inner rotor frame and an outer rotor magnet mounted to the outer rotor frame. The inner and outer rotor magnets interact to generate a magnetic field that transfers torque from the outer rotor to the inner rotor, thereby causing the inner rotor to rotate the anode.

Abstract: A cathode assembly including certain features designed to protect the integrity of a filament contained therein is disclosed. In particular, the cathode assembly is configured to prevent damage to the filament should it inadvertently contact another portion of the cathode assembly. In an example embodiment, an x-ray tube incorporating features of the present invention is disclosed. The x-ray tube includes an evacuated enclosure containing a cathode assembly and an anode. The cathode assembly includes a head portion having a head surface. A slot is defined on the head surface and an electron-emitting filament is included in the slot. A protective surface is defined on the head surface proximate to a central portion of the filament. The protective surface in one embodiment is composed of tungsten and is configure to prevent fusing of the filament to the protective surface should the filament inadvertently contact the protective surface.
