    摘要: A brake pad assembly is provided, including a friction lining providing a wear surface for contacting a brake rotor and a back plate coupled to the friction lining. The back plate is made of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon matrix composite. In one example, a majority of the carbon fibers of the back plate are oriented in a x-y in-plane direction resulting in a structure where the thermal conductivity is at least 2 times greater in the x-y in-plane direction versus a z through-plane direction. In another example, the back plate is provided as at least one sheet of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon matrix composite. A method of manufacturing the brake pad assembly is also provided.

A thermal barrier is provided to retard the transfer of heat from the friction shoes to the annular tube element. The thermal barrier protects the tube element and adds mechanical strength thereto to prevent excessive elongation and extrusion of the tube element between the plurality of friction shoes when the tube element is expanded. The thermal barrier is at least partially imbedded in the exterior surface of the tube element.

    摘要: A brake shoe for spot-type disc brakes wherein a backing plate is formed with at least two projections, one extending further than the other, at the opposite lateral edges of the plate to which the friction lining is bonded. As a piston drives the backing plate and lining toward a brake disc, the lining is gradually worn away until the metal of the further extending projection comes into contact with the metal of the disc, thereby providing an audible squeal or warning signal to the vehicle operator while there is still enough brake lining remaining to provide adequate stopping power.
