Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling a yaw offset of a plurality of wind turbines. The method uses a decision function which generates an activation parameter for determining if the yaw offset control of a specific wind turbine should be enabled or disabled. The decision function depends on two or more variables comprising a wind direction variable indicative of the wind direction of the specific wind turbine, and a wind variation variable defining at least a wind variation range where yaw offset control is disabled or enabled. Based on the decision function it is determined if a yaw offset should be added to the current yaw setting of the specific wind turbine.

Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention there is provided an apparatus for monitoring an ambient environment of a wind turbine. The apparatus comprises a cooling system comprising first and second heat exchangers, and a fluid circuit arranged to enable coolant to flow between the first and second heat exchangers. The apparatus further comprises a processor configured to: monitor one or more operational parameters of the cooling system; measure an efficiency of the cooling system based on the monitored one or more operational parameters; and calculate a liquid water content of the ambient environment based on the measured efficiency of the cooling system.

Abstract: A method for controlling a wind energy farm is disclosed. A wake state of the wind energy farm is determined, including determining wake chains defining wake relationships among the wind turbines of the wind farm under the current wind conditions. For at least one of the wind turbines of the wind energy farm, a lifetime usage is estimated, based on an accumulated load measure for the wind turbine. In the case that the estimated lifetime usage is below a predefined lifetime usage limit, the wind turbine is operated in an overrated state, while monitoring wake effects at each of the wind turbines. In the case that a downstream wind turbine detects wake effects above a predefined wake threshold level, at least one wind turbine having an upstream wake relationship with the downstream wind turbine is requested to decrease the generated wake, e.g. by decreasing power production.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for controlling a wind turbine. The method predicts behaviour of the wind turbine components for the time stages over a prediction horizon using a wind turbine model describing dynamics of the wind turbine, where the time stages include a first set of time stages from an initial time stage and a second set of time stages subsequent to the first set. The method determines control outputs, e.g. individual blade pitch, for time stages based on the predicted behaviour. The method then transmits a control signal to implement only the control outputs for each of the second set of time stages so as to control the wind turbine. Advantageously, the invention reduces both average and peak computational loads relative to standard predictive control algorithms.

Abstract: A wind turbine control system comprising at least one control module configured to output a control signal for a control mechanism of a wind turbine, and a gain calculator for calculating a gain parameter associated with the control module, wherein the gain parameter is calculated based on a computerized real-time blade model using a determined wind turbine operating point as an input. The blade model may be a blade element momentum model. In another aspect, the invention may be expressed as a method of controlling a control mechanism of a wind turbine.

Abstract: The invention relates to a wind turbine system (1) with several wind turbine modules (2) mounted to a support structure (3). A control system is configured to determine a lift command (21) for a particular wind turbine module (2′) of the 5 plurality of wind turbines modules (2). The control system is applying the lift command (21) to a corresponding rotor blade pitch adjustment system of the particular wind turbine module (2′) so as to create a lift force (F_up) in the opposite direction of gravity on the particular wind turbine module mounted on the support structure. Providing an upwards lift force on one, or more, particular 10 wind turbine module(s) may reduce, or eliminate, static and/or dynamical loads from the wind turbine module on the support structure.

Abstract: A wind turbine system is described comprising a plurality of wind turbine modules, each including a rotor, mounted to a support structure including a tower. In use, each rotor has an associated rotating unbalance that defines an unbalance vector. The wind turbine system includes control means configured to coordinate the rotational speeds of the plurality of rotors to attenuate oscillations of the support structure caused by the rotating unbalance of the rotors. Also described is a method of controlling such a wind turbine system. The method comprises coordinating the rotational speeds of the plurality of rotors to attenuate oscillations of the support structure caused by the rotating unbalance of the rotors.
