Abstract: The invention relates to a composition containing a catalyst suitable for producing ethylene and other C2+ hydrocarbons at high selectivity while improving both methane conversion and product yield. Particularly, the catalyst contains mixed metal oxides having at least one alkali earth metal and at least one rare earth metal along with an alkali metal promoter in the form of an alkali metal or in the form of an alkali metal tungstate. The invention further provides a method for preparing such a composition, using a calcination process to calcine the alkali metal promoters together with mixed metal oxides. Additionally, the invention further describes a process for producing C2+ hydrocarbons, using such a composition.

Abstract: Methods of performing a startup of an oxidative coupling of methane reaction to produce C2+ hydrocarbons are described. The methods can include incrementally varying startup parameters of the oxidative methane reactor and using the feed gas as a coolant such that high C2+ hydrocarbon selectivity is achieved.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for producing C2+ hydrocarbons, and systems for implementing the process, that includes providing a reactant feed that includes methane and an oxygen containing gas to a first reaction zone, wherein the temperature of the reactant feed is less than 700° C. contacting the reactant feed with a first catalyst capable of catalyzing an oxidative coupling of methane reaction (OCM) to produce a first product stream that includes C2+ hydrocarbons and heat, and contacting the first product stream with a second catalyst capable of catalyzing an OCM reaction to produce a second product stream that includes C2+ hydrocarbons, wherein the produced heat is at least partially used to heat the first product stream prior to or during contact with the second catalyst, wherein the amount of C2+ hydrocarbons in the second product stream is greater than the amount of C2+ hydrocarbons in the first product stream.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for production of ethylene by an oxidative coupling of methane process in the presence of a catalytic material. Heat generated from the oxidative coupling of methane can be transferred to an inert material in an amount sufficient to reduce thermal deactivation of the catalytic material.
