    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may transmit or receive a reference signal to or from a base station using a beam pair including a first beam associated with a first polarization and a second beam associated with a second polarization. The UE may select the first beam from a first set of beams associated with the first polarization and may independently select the second beam from a second set of beams associated with the second polarization. In some examples, the UE may select the first beam and the second beam based on the first beam and the second beam each having a greatest beam strength (at the UE or the base station) relative to a remainder of the first set of beams and the second set of beams, respectively.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network entity may transmit a reference signal to a user equipment (UE). The UE may measure, during a first time period and according to a first periodicity, the reference signal using a first beam associated with cell search. The UE may determine that a movement of the UE satisfies a movement threshold value based on an indication from a motion sensor. Additionally, the UE may determine that a channel metric fails to satisfy a threshold. In response, the UE may measure, during a second time period, the reference signal using the first beam according to a second periodicity that is greater than the first periodicity and corresponds to a more frequent measurement of the reference signal using the first beam than the first periodicity.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a base station and a user equipment (UE) may utilize multi-port reference signals to determine a beam pair for rank-2 transmissions. For example, a UE may receive a set of multi-port reference signals, where each multi-port reference signal of the set corresponds to a unique beam pair and is received via two ports associated with two different polarizations. The UE may determine a spectral efficiency estimation for each multi-port reference signal of the set, select a beam pair associated with a multi-port reference signal with the highest determined spectral efficiency estimation of the set, and transmit an indication of the selected beam pair to the base station. Therefore, the UE and the base station may communicate using a beam pair which maximizes the spectral efficiency and rate of rank-2 transmissions.

    Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may estimate, for each beam at one or more beam levels on one or more antenna panels, an application layer throughput based at least in part on a reference signal received power measurement, wherein the one or more beam levels are each associated with a number of antenna elements. The UE may generate a set of candidate beams that includes, at each of the one or more beam levels, one or more beams for which the respective estimated application layer throughput satisfies an application layer throughput requirement. The UE may select, from the set of candidate beams, a serving beam for which the estimated application layer throughput satisfies the application layer throughput requirement with a fewest number of antenna elements.     Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes receiving, by a UE, one or more configuration messages indicating synchronization signals (SS) and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block measurement timing configuration (SMTC) parameters. The SMTC parameters indicate SMTC windows associated with reception of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) by the UE from a base station. The method further includes, based on detecting one or more trigger conditions, transitioning, by the UE, from an inactive state to an active state to receive, during a time interval distinct from the SMTC windows, one or more SSBs from the base station. The method further includes performing, by the UE, one or more beam management operations based on the one or more SSBs received during the time interval.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for a user equipment (UE) to detect motion of the UE based on a motion sensor, such as an inertial measurement unit (IMU). The UE, based on the detected motion, may trigger a measurement procedure in which measurements of different beams or cells are performed at a greater periodicity than if the motion were not detected. The indication from the motion sensor may indicate that UE acceleration, rotation, orientation, or any combinations thereof, exceeds a threshold and results in the UE switching to a fastest available measurement periodicity. After triggering the fastest available measurement periodicity, the UE may adjust the measurement periodicity based on newly obtained beam measurements and converge to a measurement periodicity based on observed metrics.
