Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a transmitting device may obtain a plurality of packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) packets. The transmitting device may generate an outer coding block in accordance with assembling the plurality of PDCP packets. The transmitting device may segment the outer coding block into a plurality of outer coding symbols in accordance with an outer coding symbol size. The transmitting device may apply a forward error correction encoding to the outer coding block. The transmitting device may transmit the plurality of outer coding symbols in accordance with applying the forward error correction encoding to the outer coding block. Abstract: Various aspects may include methods for managing uplink transmission latency. In some embodiments, a user equipment (UE) modem may determine for each of two or more initial offset times an average time between uplink data arrival times at the UE modem during a configured grant (CG) frame pattern and subsequent uplink slots, select an initial offset time corresponding to the shortest average time, and receiving uplink data at the UE modem for transmission to a communication network according to the selected initial offset time. In some embodiments, the UE modem may determine for each of two or more CG frame patterns, an average time between uplink data arrival times at the UE modem and subsequent uplink slots of the CG frame patterns, select a CG frame pattern corresponding to the shortest average time, and transmit the selected CG frame pattern to a communication network.

Abstract: Aspects presented herein may improve the latency and power consumption for communications by enabling a wireless device to apply outer coding (OC) (with forward error correction (FEC)) to transmission(s). In one aspect, a wireless device segments each packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) packet in a plurality of PDCP packets into a set of OC symbols, where the plurality of PDCP packets corresponds to a packet data unit (PDU) set. The wireless device assembles multiple sets of OC symbols into an OC block. The wireless device applies an FEC encoding to the OC block. The wireless device outputs the OC block based on the FEC encoding. In some examples, the wireless device also adds an OC header to the OC block, where the OC header includes a symbol size, a set of source symbols, and/or a symbol index associated with the FEC encoding.
