    Abstract: Various embodiments may provide communication security at a physical layer. In some embodiments, a first wireless device at a first location may transmit to a second wireless device at a second location different portions of a message via two or more different spatially separated signal paths in a manner that enables the second wireless device to receive the complete message but prevents reception of the complete message by a third wireless device at a third location different from the second location. The second wireless device may receive different portions of the message via the two or more different spatially separated signal paths, may assemble the message from the received different portions of the message.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus to determine a line-of-sight (LOS) path based at least on polarization characteristics. The apparatus determines a polarization used by a transmitter for at least one RS. The apparatus receives the at least one RS with a first received polarization in a first configuration and a second received polarization in a second configuration that is different from the first configuration. The apparatus measures polarization characteristics of the first received polarization and the second received polarization. The apparatus determines whether the at least one RS was received in a LOS path from the transmitter based on the measured polarization characteristics and expected received polarization characteristics, wherein the expected received polarization characteristics are based on the determined polarization used by the transmitter.

    Abstract: Techniques are provided for passive positioning of user equipment (UE) with backhaul messaging. An example method for providing passive positioning information includes transmitting, with a first wireless node, assistance data associated with at least a first reference signal and a second reference signal, transmitting, with the first wireless node, the first reference signal at a first time via one or more over-the-air signals, providing instructions via a wired network connection to enable a second wireless node to transmit the second reference signal at a second time, and transmitting, with the first wireless node, turnaround time information based on the first time and the second time.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A first wireless device may transmit one or more signals to a second wireless device using an antenna panel including antenna elements that are arranged in a hexagonal configuration. The signals may be transmitted using one or more directional beams for multiple-input multiple-output communications with the second wireless device, the directional beams generated based on the antenna elements in the hexagonal configuration. The first wireless device may receive a signal from the second wireless device, and in some cases, the first wireless device may transmit one or more reference signals via the one or more directional beams, the reference signals associated with a set of two or more antenna elements of the antenna panel of the first wireless device. The second wireless device may perform measurements of the reference signals and transmit a measurement report to the first wireless device.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described, including detection of whether a first wireless device is location within a near-field distance of a second wireless device. The first wireless device measures phases of reference signals received at first antenna array of the first antenna array from a second antenna array of the second wireless device. The first wireless device determines, based on the phases, the values of quadratic terms associated with an equation for calculating the distance between a first antenna of the first antenna array and the center of the first antenna array or for calculating the distance between a second antenna of the second antenna array and the center of the second antenna array. The first wireless device determines, based on the quadratic terms, whether the first wireless device is within the near-field distance of the second wireless device.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for determining a transmit diversity across orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes are described. In some examples, a first device may select a subset of OAM modes for a transmit diversity scheme associated with communications between the first device and a second device. The first device may transmit an indication of the transmit diversity scheme, where the transmit diversity scheme may indicate the subset of OAM modes to the second device. The first device may then transmit signaling (e.g., a data packet, one or more signals, a data stream) to the second device using a set of transmitter circles of the first device. In response, the second device may transmit a feedback message, indicating signal strength measurements associated with one or more OAM modes. The first device may determine a set of OAM modes to use for subsequent signaling based on the feedback message.
