Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for predictive mesh coding based on a centroid-normal (C-N) representation. An encoder generates C-N representations of a high-resolution (hi-res) mesh and a downscaling of the mesh (lo-res mesh), each representation having respective centroids and normals. The encoder generates predicted centroids corresponding to the hi-res mesh based on the lo-res centroids using a centroid prediction model. The encoder generates predicted normals corresponding to the hi-res mesh based on the predicted centroids and lo-res normals using a normal vector prediction model. Residuals are computed for the respective predicted geometry data. The encoder transmits encodings of the lo-res mesh and the residuals for decoding at a client device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for only including portions of a user's environment that have been approved by a user in a video conference while excluding portions that have not been approved. This may be accomplished by a device receiving a policy identifying one or more approved objects of a scene of a video stream. The device may then generate a filtered video stream by only including portions of the scene that comprise the one or more objects that were approved by the policy in the filtered video stream. The filtered video stream may be combined with other video streams to generate a video conference that is transmitted and/or stored by one or more devices participating in the video conference.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for initiating a media content item group watch session with an identified contact. A user profile is identified, and a media content item is generated for output at a first computing device. A contact is identified based on the user profile and the media content item, and an invitation to join a media content item group session is generated based on the media content item and the identified contact. The invitation is transmitted to a second computing device associated with the contact, and an indication that the invitation has been accepted is received. The media content item group session is initiated between the first and second computing devices, and the media content item is received at the first and second computing devices.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and systems, implemented by a device such as a client device, for seamlessly inserting a supplemental content item into a content item to negate the user's need for rewinding to a point prior to the interruption of the content item by the supplemental content item. The client device accesses the supplemental content insertion logic to identify a default supplemental content insertion point between two consecutive segments of the content item. The client device analyzes the two consecutive segments of the content item to identify a natural supplemental content insertion point within one of the two consecutive segments. The client device then decodes a first set of frames of the content item up to the natural supplemental content insertion point, a second set of frames of the supplemental content item and a third set of frames of the content item from the natural supplemental content insertion point. The client device places these three sets of frames in a buffer and plays the frames from the buffer.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for generation of a smooth, engaging transition from one media source to another or from one portion of a media source to another portion of the media source. In response to a request to change display of content from a first source to a second source, a first decodable frame of the second source is determined before completion of decoding a first segment of the second source. During the decoding of the second source, a transition based at least in part on the first decodable frame of the second source is generated for display. In response to completion of the decoding of the first segment of the second source, the second source is displayed without the transition. Artificial intelligence systems, including neural networks, and models are utilized to improve the transition. Related apparatuses, devices, techniques, and articles are also described.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for efficiently encoding geometry information for 3D media content. An illustrative system generates a low-resolution polygon mesh from a high-resolution polygon mesh. The system uses a vertex occupancy prediction network to generate, from vertices of the low-resolution polygon mesh, approximated vertices of the high-resolution polygon mesh. The system uses a connectivity prediction network to generate, from approximated vertices of the high-resolution polygon mesh, approximated connections of the high-resolution polygon mesh. The system computes vertex errors between the approximated vertices and the vertices of the high-resolution polygon mesh, and connectivity errors between the approximated connections and the connections of the high-resolution polygon mesh. The system transmits, to a receiver over a communication network, bitstreams of the low-resolution polygon mesh, the vertex errors, and the connectivity errors for reconstruction of the high-resolution polygon mesh and display of the 3D media content.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for enabling improved video conferencing. A stream comprising a plurality of pictures is received at a computing device. For each picture in the plurality of pictures, the picture is decoded, the decoded picture is stored in a decoded pictures buffer and it is identified that the decoded picture is below a threshold quality. For a first decoded picture that is not below the threshold quality, the decoded picture is stored in a display buffer, accessed from the display buffer, and output for display. For a second decoded pictured that is below threshold quality, a previously output picture is continued to be output for display.

Abstract: A first window, for example, a picture-in-picture (PiP), is displayed on a user device to avoid obscuring displayed items of a second window, when the displayed items are determined to have priority relative to the first window contents, for example, newly received notifications. A PiP may be positioned at a top or bottom of the display to avoid obscuring the priority displayed item(s), or may be made smaller or made partially translucent to avoid obscuring the priority displayed item(s). Standard position and format PiP may be resumed if the displayed item is deemed to have lost priority.
