Abstract: An example data structure for managing user equipment communications in a wireless communications system is presented, as well as methods and apparatuses configured to implement the data structure. For instance, the data structure may include a downlink subframe comprising two slots and including one or more quick downlink channels having a single-slot transmission time interval. In addition, the example data structure may include one or more resource element blocks each comprising one or more resource elements into which a frequency bandwidth is divided within one or both of the two slots, wherein each of the one or more resource element blocks comprises a control channel region or a data channel region. Furthermore, the example data structure may include one or more resource grants, located within one or more control channel regions, for one or more user equipment served by the one or more quick downlink channels.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, over the air, information indicative of at least one type of LBT procedure to perform for an uplink transmission; identifying, from the received information, the at least one type of LBT procedure to perform for the uplink transmission; and performing, for a shared spectrum, the at least one type of LBT procedure for the uplink transmission. One method for wireless communication at a network access device includes scheduling an uplink transmission of a UE in a shared spectrum, and transmitting, over the air, information indicative of at least one type of LBT procedure to perform for the uplink transmission.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods, in one or more aspect, provide feedback with respect to downlink grant feedback communications received by a user equipment (UE). The apparatus and methods monitor for signals from a network entity on one or more channels, and determine, based on the monitoring, whether one or more grants are received and whether UE data is received on the one or more channels. Further, the apparatus and methods generate a feedback indication having a feedback value determined according to a feedback rule and based on whether the one or more grants and the UE data are received. Additionally, the apparatus and methods transmit the feedback indication to the network entity on a resource determined according to the feedback rule and based on whether the one or more grants and the UE data are received.

Abstract: Uplink waveforms for operating long term evolution (LTE) in an unlicensed band (i.e., long term evolution-unlicensed (LTE-U) communication) are disclosed. Carrier aggregation (CA) and standalone (SA) are disclosed. LTE on the licensed channel may provide both control and data, LTE on the unlicensed channel may provide data. Managing variable transmission time interval (TTI) continuous transmission is disclosed for transmission over multiple subframes of an unlicensed carrier in LTE-U. Listen-before-talk (LBT) requirements of unlicensed carriers provide for additional channel occupancy constraints when scheduling resources for multiple UEs for variable TTI continuous uplink transmissions over multiple subframes. A joint control channel is disclosed that provides control information for all of the potentially available subframes to be scheduled for the uplink transmissions. In addition to management of the variable TTI continuous transmissions, adjustments to uplink signal parameters are also disclosed that address the constraints due to the LBT requirements of unlicensed carriers.

Abstract: Techniques are described for contention-based wireless communications channel access that may improve the likelihood that a contention procedure will pass and allow a device to transmit an uplink or downlink transmission using the contention-based channel. Various disclosed techniques may determine a transmit power for a subsequent transmission based on channel characteristics during one or more clear channel assessment (CCA) time durations. The transmit power may be selected to provide a CCA threshold that may increase the likelihood that a device will win contention for the channel during the CCA procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) operating in unlicensed spectrum may determine that a base station is not transmitting during a particular time period (e.g., by detecting the absence of a control signal). The UE may then perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure and, if the channel is available, may perform an autonomous uplink (UL) transmission. The autonomous UL transmission may include control information to facilitate decoding. Thus, the base station may receive the control information, and decode the rest of the autonomous UL transmission accordingly. The base station may configure the UE for autonomous UL transmissions when the radio link is established, and may also send dynamic configuration information to initiate, suspend, or reconfigure parameters for autonomous UL transmissions.

Abstract: Semi-connected state operation for UEs in multiple-access networks is described. In the semi-connected state, UEs may monitor system information and paging, and mobility may be UE-controlled. Base stations may determine whether to transition UEs from the connected state to the semi-connected state based on capabilities, priority, data connections, or loading conditions. Base stations may maintain context information and logical traffic connections for UEs while UEs continue to be served by the base station in the semi-connected state. Thus, when a transition from the semi-connected state to the connected state occurs, the base station does not have to re-establish security parameters, nor re-establish logical traffic connections within the network for carrying control plane and user plane data for the UE. Context information for semi-connected state UEs may be shared between neighboring base stations or base stations within a context area. The techniques may be applied to LTE/LTE-A networks.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques and apparatus for efficient support of variable bit rate (VBR) voice traffic on LTE uplink. In an aspect, a base station may periodically schedule transmission resources for use by a user equipment (UE) for transmitting data on a logical channel, wherein the periodically scheduling grants the UE a fixed first transport block (TB) size of transmission resources at regular intervals, receive an indication from the UE of an amount of data for transmission on the logical channel, and adjust the fixed first TB size of the periodically scheduled transmission resources to a fixed second TB size based on the indicated amount of data. In another aspect, a base station may configure a UE to enable scheduling request masking (SR-masking) on a logical channel, and configure the UE with a threshold amount of data for the logical channel to dynamically disable SR-masking on the logical channel. In another aspect, a UE may receive a configuration to enable scheduling request (SR) masking (SR-masking) on a logical channel, receive a configuration of a threshold amount of data for the logical channel to dynamically disable SR-masking on the logical channel, and decide whether to transmit an SR based on the amount of data to transmit and the threshold amount.
