Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Wireless communications systems may support both access links and sidelinks (e.g., D2D communication links) for communications between one or more communication devices. Wireless devices may communicate sidelink control information in two stages, where first stage sidelink control information (SCI-1) may be transmitted via a physical sidelink channel and second stage sidelink control information (SCI-2) may be transmitted via a physical shared channel. In cases where sidelink communications use several (e.g., three or more) layers, the described layer mapping techniques may provide for robust transmission of control information, higher data rates, improved spectral efficiency, etc. For example, SCI-1 and/or SCI-2 may be mapped to physical channel layers by repeating the same modulation symbols across all layers, across groupings or sets of layers, across layers associated with each codeword, etc.

Abstract: Rate-matching and channel estimation are disclosed for new radio (NR) user equipments (UEs). An NR UE obtains coexistence information of neighboring legacy operations including common reference signal (CRS) ports, CRS frequency pattern, and a legacy subframe type corresponding to the NR transmission segments. The NR UE determines legacy CRS occasion(s) coinciding with shared downlink direction operations for the NR and legacy operations, and rate-matches reception of NR downlink transmissions around the CRS occasion(s). In other aspects, an NR UE detects overlap of a downlink signal with downlink control channel candidate of a configured control resource set (CORESET). The UE ends monitoring of the candidate within a search space of the CORESET in response to the detected overlap, detects a collision between a scheduled demodulation reference signal (DMRS) and the downlink signal occasion, and discards all or part of the CORESET.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for adjusting control signaling for a subsequent message based on a number of retransmissions of the subsequent message. The number of repetitions of the subsequent message may be used to modify the parameters of the subsequent message and/or modify the control signaling related to the parameters of the subsequent message. Downlink control information may include a plurality of fields related to one or more parameters of the subsequent message. A size or a range of at least some of the plurality of fields may vary based on the number of repetitions of the subsequent message. The number of repetitions may be based on a repetition factor.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for a two-step random access channel (RACH) procedure in which uplink random access preamble and message transmission occasions may span multiple transmission slots. Reference signal resources for transmitting a reference signal with a first random access message of the two-step RACH procedure may include at least one symbol in each of the multiple transmission slots. The reference signal resources, reference signal sequence, or both, may be identified based on a particular uplink random access message transmission occasion, random access preamble transmission occasion, random access preamble sequence configuration, or any combinations thereof.
