Abstract: A method of encoding a point cloud includes determining, by one or more processors, a quantity of lasers used to capture light detection and ranging (LIDAR) data that represents the point cloud; and encoding, by the one or more processors, a laser index for a current node of the point cloud, wherein encoding the laser index comprises: obtaining a predicted laser index value of the current node; determining a residual laser index value for the current node, wherein determining the residual laser index value comprises constraining a sum of the residual laser index value and the predicted laser index value to be less than or equal to the determined quantity of lasers minus one; and encoding, in a bitstream, one or more syntax elements that represent the residual laser index value.

Abstract: A point cloud encoder and decoder are configured to code point cloud data using predictive geometry coding and a vertical predictor. A vertical predictor is a previously coded point in the point cloud having a different laser ID compared to the currently coded point. Abstract: A device for encoding video data includes a memory configured to store video data, and a video encoder implemented in circuitry and configured to encode a future picture of the video data having a first display order position, the future picture being included in an intra period (IP) of the video data, the IP comprising a plurality of groups of pictures (GOPs), and after encoding the future picture, encode a picture of an ordinal first GOP of the plurality of GOPs using the future picture as a reference picture, each picture of the ordinal first GOP having display order positions earlier than the first display order position. Encoding the future picture in this manner may result in encoding performance improvements with minimal increases in encoding and decoding complexity.

Abstract: A video coder determines a plurality of available Matrix Intra Prediction (MIP) parameter sets (MPS's) for a picture of video data. The plurality of available MPS's is a union of (i) a subset of all default MPS's and (ii) a set of additional MPS's that are signaled in the bitstream. Each of the default MPS's is associated with a predefined MIP mode in a codec. Each of the set of additional MPS's is associated with a new MIP mode in a set of new MIP modes. The video decoder uses a MIP mode associated with an MPS in the plurality of available MPS's to generate a prediction block for a current block of the picture.
