Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for efficiently determining when to transmit a beam report indicating a new beam for communicating with a base station after a current beam used for communications with the base station fails. In one example, after detecting beam failure, a user equipment (UE) may compare a quality of each candidate beam available for communicating with a base station to a beam identification threshold, and the UE may perform beam reporting based on the comparisons (e.g., refrain from transmitting a beam report if the quality of each of the candidate beams is lower than the beam identification threshold). In another example, after detecting beam failure, a UE may compare a quality of each candidate beam available for communicating with a base station to a beam detection threshold, and the UE may perform beam reporting based on the comparisons.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that allow secondary cell (SCell) beam failure recovery using a primary cell (PCell). A user equipment (UE) may transmit, via the PCell, an indication of a beam failure of the SCell in a scheduling request (SR) or in a dedicated SR message. After receiving the indication, the base station may request a report from the UE or alternatively, may monitor a set of resources for a report without transmitting a request to the UE. The report may be transmitted via the PCell and may include an indication of a selected beam to use for subsequent communications on the SCell. Based on the report, the base station may modify its transmission configuration for the SCell and communicate with the UE via the selected beam.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications systems, a base station may communicate with a user equipment (UE) using multiple antennas. Data streams may be mapped to the antennas using antenna ports. In some cases, a base station may transmit a transmission configuration indication (TCI) to a UE to indicate quasi co-location (QCL) relationships between antenna ports used for downlink communication with a UE. The UE may use these QCL relationships to identify appropriate techniques for decoding a downlink transmission from the base station. In some cases, it may be appropriate for a base station to update one or more TCI states configured for indicating, to a UE, QCL relationships between antenna ports used for downlink communication with the UE. As described herein, a base station may support techniques for dynamically updating such TCI states (e.g., via downlink control information (DCI) signaling).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which a user equipment (UE) may report to a base station a beam switching capability of the UE. The beam switching capability may include a number of beam switches that the UE is capable of performing within a single transmission slot. In some cases, the beam switches may be performed by a UE by applying a particular spatial domain filter for uplink or downlink communications that is associated with a particular transmission and reception beam. In some cases, the base station may schedule transmissions or beam switches during a slot based on the UE capability. The number of beam switches, in some cases, may be determined based on a rule set that defines one or more actions that are to be considered to be a beam change.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for efficient identification of spatial parameters for receiving control information in an initial coreset. In one example, a user equipment (UE) may receive a transmission configuration indication (TCI) state indicating reference signals quasi co-located with a control information transmission in a coreset. The TCI state may be identified from a set of TCI states, where the set of TCI states includes at least one TCI state corresponding to each synchronization signal block (SSB) (e.g., each quasi co-location (QCL) source) associated with the initial coreset. The UE may identify spatial parameters for monitoring the coreset for the control information transmission in accordance with the TCI state.

Abstract: Devices and methods for synchronized group messaging in a wireless communication system are described. Multicast transmissions, such as those in a dense network, can cause significant medium usage because same multicast packet is likely sent by multiple APs at different time. Medium usage in such implementations may be redundant. As such, the transmission medium is not used optimally. Devices and methods which coordinate and align group messages (e.g., multicast packets) amongst APs are described. Each AP may be configured to transmit identical packets at the same time. Therefore, medium usage can be reduced, while the range can be extended due to accumulated energy from APs.

Abstract: Methods and systems for sounding a wireless network are disclosed. In one aspect, a method includes receiving, by an access point a message including a beamforming report from a device. The device may be a station that is outside a basic service set of the access point. The method also includes transmitting a message to the device based on the beamforming report. For example, in some aspects, the access point may utilize the beamforming report to perform a coordinated beamforming, multi-access point transmission or a multi-access point MIMO transmission. In some aspects, the access point may transmit an interference nulling signal to the device based on the beamforming report. The nulling signal compensates for another simultaneous transmission by the access point that interferes with the device's reception of a message from an access point with which the device is associated.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for dynamic forbiddance of wireless transmissions by transmitters of one or more overlapping basic service set (OBSS) concurrent with transmissions of a transmitter in a first basic service set (BSS). A first transmitter of a first BSS may identify a transmission that is to be a protected transmission, and based on the identification may dynamically forbid one or more other transmitters of an OBSS that overlaps with the first BSS from concurrent transmissions with the protected transmission. An access point or station of an OBSS may receive an indication of the forbiddance of transmissions and may apply deferral rules to defer transmissions based on the forbiddance. One or more disincentive rules may be applied at the first transmitter to provide disincentives for forbidding OBSS reuse.

Abstract: A wireless device may utilize enhanced OBSS identification techniques to determine whether an interfering transmission is associated with an OBSS. In an example, a wireless device may receive a WLAN packet that includes a preamble and a data region. The wireless device may analyze the preamble to determine whether the WLAN packet is an OBSS packet. If the wireless device determines there is insufficient information in the preamble to identify the WLAN packet as an OBSS packet, the wireless device may decode a portion of the data region (e.g., a MAC header) to determine if the WLAN packet is an OBSS packet. Prior to declaring a successful decoding of the MAC header, the wireless device may confirm the MAC header has been received reliably. Additionally or alternatively, BSS identifiers may be included in the data region and used to determine if the WLAN packet is associated with an OBSS.
