A clearance for passage of the balls at a distal end of the pipe is determined by the inner diameter of the pipe, the root circle diameter of the external teeth of the ring gear, and the position of a spool coupled to a pinion. The space for allowing the balls to pass is defined by the inner surface of a straight portion of the pipe and contact portions of the external teeth of the ring gear with the balls. The clearance is set so that the width of the space is smaller than the diameter of the balls.

A spool is fitted in a base frame such that a torsion bar functions as a shaft of the spool. Two gear-clutch casings are disposed on the left and right sides of the spool via a pretensioner and a locking mechanism, respectively, wherein two motors are disposed to the gear-clutch casings, respectively. The two motors achieve respective functions which are different from each other and rotate at respective constant speeds. Unlike a case that one motor is used and the rotation speed of the motor is controlled, a speed controller and a noise filter for the motor are not required, thereby reducing the cost of the entire device.

    摘要: The helmet restraint system of the invention secures the helmet of a driver or passenger occupant of a vehicle, such as a race car, to the structural chassis, body, or frame of the vehicle, independent of the shoulder harness or seatbelt. The system provides a head restraint system which reduces the potentially injurious forces to the neck and head during a high-deceleration event, particularly a frontal collision. The helmet restraint belt system comprises a restraint belt assembly which spans between an anchor point on the vehicle chassis/body and a belt receiving latch mounted to the driver's helmet. The belt is preferably retractable and pre-tensioned by means of a collision or inertially-lockable belt tensioner. The helmet restraint system allows the driver to have unrestricted head movement during normal driving, but restrains the helmet and head during the impact of a collision by locking the belt against further extension. The driver's helmet is attached to the restraint belt by means of a quick-release latch which may be released by the seated driver or a person standing outside the vehicle. Embodiments are disclosed for several different alternative helmet and vehicle mountings of the restraint system, including dual belt, asymmetric restraint systems, and tensioners having internal brake mechanisms that are adjustable to provide tension, either linear or progressive within a preselected range.

    摘要: In the seat belt pretensioner device according to the present invention, because the buckle is pulled by urging an intermediate point of the cable, it is possible to pull the seat belt and buckle by a required stroke with a relatively small stroke of the power actuator, and this contributes to a compact design of the device. Because the buckle can be pulled via a fixed point of a cable guide, the buckle and, hence, seat belt can be pulled in a stable manner, and a high level of reliability can be achieved. For instance when the power actuator comprises a piston rod that is pushed out by high pressure gas, because a high pressure gas can be produced with a relatively small device, the size and weight of the device can be minimized. By using a cushioning strucgture for gradually absorbing kinetic energy toward the terminal end of the motion of the power actuator, an inadvertent unlatching of the buckle owing to an impulsive movement of the buckle can be avoided, and an excessive reaction force is prevented from being transmitted to the pretensioner device. This reduces the need for a high mechanical strength, and contributes to compact design. Also, impulsive noises at the terminal end of the operation of the device can be minimized and the device can operate in a quite manner.

A retractor urges the webbing in a winding direction while simultaneously permitting the webbing to be drawn out in an unwinding direction when in a normal state and prevents the webbing from being drawn out when acceleration of the vehicle becomes greater than a predetermined value. A bypassing mechanism is arranged above the seat back. A pretensioner is included in the retractor. The retractor is arranged above and rearward from the seat back. The webbing extends between an upper position of the seat back and the retractor bypassing the bypassing mechanism. The webbing is disengaged from the bypassing mechanism when forward acceleration becomes greater than a predetermined value. The pretensioner is activated to quickly draw in the webbing in response to the forward acceleration.
