Abstract: A die press-forms a tailor welded blank (12A) in a heated state, the tailor welded blank being formed by welding a first plate portion (34) made of a first metal plate material and a second plate portion (35) made of a second metal plate material thicker than the first metal plate material while making the first plate portion and the second plate portion abut against each other. The die includes a refrigerant passage through which a refrigerant flows, and at least one refrigerant ejection path (64) having one end connected to the refrigerant passage and the other end opening to a forming surface of the die (lower die 13). The die includes a first forming surface (51), and a second forming surface (52), farther apart from a forming surface of another die than the first forming surface (51), for forming a step (53) together with the first forming surface (51). The other end of the at least one refrigerant ejection path (64) opens near the step (53) on the second forming surface (52) between the first forming surface (51) and the second forming surface (52). It is possible to provide a die for hot press forming, which can perform quenching even for the step portion of the metal plate material and increase hardness.

Abstract: A coating composition includes: (a) 60 to 90 percent by weight of an active hydrogen-containing polyester having a number average molecular weight of at least 23,000, an acid value below 5 and a hydroxyl value below 10, (b) 0.1 to 10 percent by weight of a polyanhydride, and (c) 5 to 30 percent by weight of a curing agent reactive with the active hydrogens associated with (a) and (b), the percentages being based on weight of resin solids of the coating composition, where the reaction product of the coating composition forms a single coating without including a thermoplastic polymer. The coating composition is useful in coating food and beverage containers, particularly 2-piece cans formed by drawing and redrawing (DRD).

Abstract: A method is provided for the creation of an addendum for use in the design and production of sheet metal formed components, which method uses a sectionless approach. In a preferred approach, elevation curve (EC) lines are established relating to the component (ECc) and binder (ECb), and it is these lines which are used to design the addendum. Additional EC lines (EC1, EC2, EC3, etc.) can be added to modify or optimize the addendum design. The spaces between the EC lines are filled using various parameterized filling techniques so as to provide the addendum design. Optimization of the addendum can be achieved by modification of the various EC lines, so as to modify or control the various design parameters, in accordance with various quality or design criteria. A more rapid, and less complicated approach to addendum design is provided.

Abstract: Disclosed is a hot-pressed member that can exhibit very high tensile strength after hot pressing, excellent delayed fracture resistance, and high tensile shear stress after resistance spot welding by properly adjusting its chemical composition and its microstructure such that at least 20 Nb-based precipitates having a grain size of less than 0.10 μm are present on average per 100 μm2 of a cross section parallel to a thickness direction of the member, a prior austenite average grain size is 8 μm or less, an average aspect ratio of prior austenite grains is 2.5 or less, and a volume fraction of martensite is 90% or more, and such that a standard deviation of Vickers hardness measured every 200 μm on a surface of the member is 40 or less.
