A resin-impregnated pleated paper filter element is formed by first folding a flat sheet of the paper into uniform pleats 24, Fig. 5, bonding it e.g., by means of a layer 34 to a flat rectangular perforated sheet of cone material 26, bending the ends of the latter together and joining them e.g., by a lap strip 36, Fig. 3, thus causing the pleated paper into a cylinder, the end folds being bonded together at 38. The open ends of the pleats are bonded to plates 28, 30, Fig. 1, and the outer folds are surrounded by a perforated wrapper 32 cemented thereto. In use the element 16 so formed is held by a spring 18 and a bolt 14 within a bowl 10 having an inlet 20 and an outlet 22.

摘要: A hollow edge-filtration filter-unit comprising helically-wound slightly-rough ribbon material with shallow spaces between the convolutions is characterized by the facts that the ribbon material is porous and impregnated with an agent rendering it stable against the action of the fluid to be filtered, that the convolutions are adhered by the agent, and that the convolutions are disposed obliquely to the axis of the unit. The ribbon material may be crepe paper with the rugosities extending cross-wise. The obliquity is preferably about 45 degrees. A plurality of ribbons of the material may be wound together in parallel relation to one another. The stabilizing and adhering reagent may be a polymerizable phenolic resin, which is polymerized by passing the unit through an oven immediately after the winding process during manufacture (see Group XXVIII).

摘要: A pleated filter preparation system is provided for accurately counting pleats along a continuous sheet of pleated filter material and cutting the sheet into filter strips to be formed into filters. The pleated filter preparation system includes a pleat driver having multiple drive gears that engage with the pleats of the pleated filter material to move the pleated filter material through the system. A pleat counter counts peaks and valleys of each pleat comprising the pleated filter material so as to identify a target pleat to be cut. The pleat counter clamps and stretches the target pleat to distinguish the target pleat among the other pleats. A punch cut station cuts the target pleat to form a filter strip having a desired number of pleats. A pleat compressor compresses the filter strips to a predetermined size and then ejects the filter strips into a suitable container or bin.

摘要: Systems and methods for automated fabrication of pleated filters that promote user-selected adjustment of the pleat spacing generated by the system. A lower conveyor of a pleat spacing station is operated at a selected conveyor rate. A gathered pleated segment of filter material is received at the pleat spacing station. The pleat spacing station expands a pleat spacing of the gathered pleated segment in forming a pleated filter segment. Expansion of the pleats at the pleat spacing station is accomplished by initially engaging the filter material along the lower conveyor, with the conveyor rate being alterable by a user, including on the fly alteration, to establish a desired pleat spacing and thus pleat density in the pleated filter.

Axial flow channels are defined between the pleat segments in the lateral direction and the plurality of pleats has a width in the transverse direction that varies along the axial direction.

The method comprising: forming a plurality of sheets of filter media, each sheet of filter media having an inlet end and an outlet end, wherein each of the plurality of sheets of filter media are formed by the steps of: thermoforming a first layer of filtration media to have a plurality of channels, the first layer having an upper surface and a lower surface; sonically welding a portion of a second layer of filtration media to the first layer of filtration media to form the sheet of filtration media, the sheet of filtration media having a plurality of fluid channels each having an inlet opening at one end of the sheet and a sealed end at another end of the sheet; and securing the plurality of sheets together by applying a strip of adhesive between each upper surface of each first layer facing the second layer of another sheet of filter media stacked upon the upper surface of the first layer of the filtration media.

摘要: A method is disclosed for forming a filter cartridge which includes the steps of providing a cylindrical filter element having a plurality of radially extending longitudinal pleats, engaging an outer periphery of the cylindrical filter element along a substantial portion of the length thereof, and simultaneously moving the plurality of radially extending longitudinal pleats into a laid-over spiraled configuration along the entire length of the cylindrical filter element to form a spiral pleated filter element. An apparatus is also disclosed for effectuating the disclosed method.
