    摘要: An electrostatic adsorptive fluid filtering apparatus wherein an adsorbent provided in a flow path of fluid to be treated has adsorption capacity as well as adsorption power substantially improved as a result of enhancement of a potential inherently carried by the adsorbent on its adsorptive hole surface by impressing a DC or DC/AC voltage onto a charging electrode provided with the adsorbent or by placing the adsorbent in an electric field. The apparatus includes an outer cylindrical electrode, a charging electrode within the outer cylindrical electrode, a central electrode, the adsorbent and a source of the electrical voltage connected to the outer cylindrical electrode, the charging electrode and the central electrode. The DC or DC/AC voltage is impressed across the outer cylindrical electrode and the charge electrode, on one side, with the voltage on the charging electrode and the outer cylindrical electrode being at the same potential while fluid under pressure is introduced through an inlet in the outer cylindrical electrode to a fluid receiving space defined by the outer cylindrical electrode and the charging electrode.

    摘要: In order to separate wax particles and/or water droplets from lubricating oil, free excess electric charge which is net positive or net negative is introduced into the wax/water-laden oil, preferably by charge injection. Wax particle/water droplet agglomeration and particle/droplet size growth within the oil mixture due to the electrophoretic effect arising from the electric charge introduction is allowed to occur. In this way, wax particles or water droplets normally considered to be of insufficient size to be separated effectively by filtration can be removed by filtration if the lube oil is electrically pretreated as described. The filtration, conveniently, can be effected by passing the oil mixture containing the grown wax particles/water droplets through a bed of collector beads of low electrical conductivity or through a settler or, in the case of the wax, through a filter screen.

In particluar, in the preferred embodiment the spaced parallel electrodes sandwich a porous dielectric film for collecting particles and a porous spacer which is disposed between the porous dielectric film and one of the electrodes. The pores of the porous spacer have a size which is considerably larger than that of the pores of the particle-collecting film.

    摘要: For separating wax particles and/or water droplets from a hydrocarbon mixture boiling in the lubricating oil range, net positive or net negative free excess electric charge is introduced, e.g. by a charge injector (44), into the wax/water-laden oil mixture. The oil is brought into contact with at least one collector surface, which can be provided by a bed of closely packed beads (33) in a separation vessel (6) or, for separating wax particles, a rotating collector drum (61). The introduced charge attaches itself to the wax particles/water droplets and at the same time causes an induced electric field to be set up within the oil mixture. The electrophoretic effect produced by the interaction between the charge and the induced field causes the wax/water to collect on the collector surface and accumulate there, for separation from the oil mixture.

    摘要: A filter for separating finely divided solid particles that may be electrically conducting from electrically nonconducting liquids has means for directing the liquid to be filtered in a radial flow pattern through a filter bed of glass beads to which a high-voltage gradient is applied. A central tubular electrode that serves as a conduit for the liquid extends longitudinally through the filter bed within a concentric cylindrical outer electrode spaced between the central electrode and the casing wall of the filter. After filtering until the electrical current through the filter bed exceeds a predetermined maximum, the voltage gradient is discontinued and the filter backflushed by flowing liquid upwardly through the filter at a rate that expands the filter and causes movement of the beads relative to one another and to the cylindrical outer electrode to remove deposited solids from the beads and from the electrode. The radial flow pattern allows a greatly increased flow rate as compared to longitudinal flow with a highly efficient separation of the solid particles.
