Abstract:
An inflatable foot cushion to reduce the force amplifications upon the heel of a foot received therein when the body is in a supine position.
Abstract:
Element with variable stiffness controlled by negative pressure, the element including a gas-tight envelope, a plurality of flexible layers in the envelope, each layer having a first surface and a second surface, and, a valve adapted to evacuate the interior of the envelope, where the first and second surfaces of two adjacent layers have a friction coefficient between each other which is higher than 0.5, the first and second surfaces of two adjacent layers have adhesion properties, such that a normal force per unit area of below 0.07 N/mm2 is required to separate them and/or the energy per unit area required to separate them in normal direction is below 6.7 J/m2.

Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices are described for providing a fluid control means for an inflation system. The control directs fluid flow from an inlet to one or more outlets of the control. The outlets are independently connected in fluid communication with the inlet by through the control. The control allows a user to create a fluid path between the inlet and a selected outlet by positioning the control in an orientation corresponding to the desired outlet. Each outlet is independently connected in fluid communication with the inlet in various orientations of the control.
Abstract:
A junctional and truncal tourniquet and a hip-girdling pelvic sling device for maintaining a desired amount of tension surrounding a person's hips and pelvis to securely support and stabilize a pelvis that has been fractured and for securing a pressure applying device to a person so that blood vessel-occluding pressure can be applied. Areas of mating types of fastener material such as mating hook-bearing fastener material and loop pile fastener material are arranged on the device to enable a strap to be secured at various effective lengths to provide a wide range of adjustability. The device may include inflatable bladders, stays, and a chin support and may be wrapped around a patient's neck as a cervical support collar, or around the torso to occlude blood vessels proximal to an injury on a limb.
Abstract:
A dynamic support apparatus having a frame, a dynamic interface, a temperature control mechanism, and a control system. The dynamic interface is capable of changing its geometry and is disposed on the top surface of the frame. The control system is operably connected to the dynamic interface and controls the changing geometry of the dynamic interface. There is also a temperature control mechanism disposed on the top surface of the frame for maintaining a comfortable temperature and moisture environment between the apparatus and the user's body.
Abstract:
A back brace includes an inner frame member having an interior surface, an exterior surface, a plurality of recesses formed in the interior surface, and a clamshell shape configured to wrap around a portion of a torso of a user. Each of a plurality of inserts is positioned in one of the recesses. An inflatable bladder is positioned on the exterior surface of the inner frame member, and an exterior shell member is wrapped about the bladder and the inner frame member.
Abstract:
An orthopedic device in the form of a circumferential walker includes a first member (posterior shell) and a second member (dorsal shell) corresponding to the first member. An outsole or plantar shell portion is attached to, or formed on or with the posterior shell. A hinge mechanism is provided between the posterior and dorsal shells to allow the dorsal shell to be swung away from the posterior shell in order to accommodate an anatomical limb therein. Inflatable bladders having perspiration wicking channels and/or openings are provided within a liner for insertion between the posterior and dorsal shells. Quick-connecting buckle and retaining assemblies can be provided to allow a user to quickly don and doff the orthopedic device.
Abstract:
An inflatable wrap with automatic tightness detection includes a wrap strap having at least one inflatable sealed zone formed thereon, at least one fluid guiding tube connected to between the sealed zone and an external fluid supply, at least two mating connection elements separately provided on two longitudinally opposite ends of the wrap strap, and a sensor module embedded in the wrap strap. The sensor module includes an output element and a sensor element arranged at locations separately corresponding to the two mating connection elements, and a processor element electrically connected to the sensor element. When the two mating connection elements are detachably connected together to bind the wrap strap around a user's body area with the sensor element and the output element becoming aligned with each other to provide an alignment sensing function, it means the wrap strap forms a closed loop structure to provide a proper pressing force.
Abstract:
A compression device for the foot comprising: a wrap adapted to surround the foot, the wrap comprising at least two bladders which when inflated conform to the shape of the foot to provide compression, the bladders being positioned on the wrap so that a first bladder focuses compression on the heel of the foot and a second bladder focuses compression on the arch of the foot; a channel attached to each bladder for independently delivering fluid to each bladder; and a controller attached to the channels that generates and independently controls the flow of fluid to the bladders.
Abstract:
Bladder devices and various brace apparatuses are used for providing added support to joint regions of a user. Use of the bladder devices enable a user to control the amount of pressure and resulting support to be supplied to selected portions of the joint regions. The bladder devices are able to be inserted into existing brace apparatuses. In addition, cold/hot packs are also insertable into the brace apparatus along with the bladder devices separately or integrally combined therewith, as needed to provide additional comfort and care to the joint region.
