摘要: A thermal stand-off includes a rigid thermal stand-off section within a spatial region that extends along a distance between a first location and second, opposed location. The rigid thermal stand-off section includes a tortuous solid-wall thermal conduction path that extends from the first location to the second location. The tortuous solid-wall thermal conduction path is longer than the distance of the spatial region. The tortuous solid-wall thermal conduction path can include a tensile spring constant that is greater than a maximum tensile spring constant of a coil spring that fits in the same spatial region and is formed of the same material composition. The tortuous solid-wall thermal conduction path can include an antegrade section and, relative the antegrade section, a retrograde section.

摘要: To explore deeper expanses of space, rocket ships need rockets that can last twice as long as conventional rockets. Modern rockets use the electric field to attract and accelerate charged particles out and away from the combustion chamber. Space qualified components to increase the electric field are difficult to obtain. Various embodiments of the present subject matter use multiple phases of an input signal into the power supply to cause the output DC voltage signal to be substantially smooth. These smoother signals reduce the voltage requirements of the output diodes and capacitors thereby making them easier to obtain.

摘要: A carburetor for combustion engines having a large number of small venturis to accomplish atomization, varporization and mixing of the fuel with air. The venturis are formed by an assembly or stack of platelets having fine orifices and complex channel shapes defined therein. The fuel can be either aspirated into the venturis by the difference in static pressure between the venturis and the fuel feed source, or it can be injected under pressure. The fine orifices produce droplets significantly smaller than prior art devices, and thus result in more rapid vaporization, finer atomization and better dispersing and mixing of the fuel-air mixture.

摘要: A venturi carburetor for an internal combustion engine which provides more effective fuel atomization, mixing and vaporization to improve performance and minimize undesirable combustion emissions. Gasoline or other liquid fuel is injected into five narrow rectangular venturi diffuser sections in the form of very finely atomized droplets from eight small injection orifices located within the throat of each of the five venturis. The fuel injection assembly includes five rectangular injector plates each of which comprises a bonded assembly of individual platelets having transfer orifices and complex hydraulic flow channels precisely formed therein by photoetching. Together the platelets form a series of fuel delivery passages connecting the fuel supply with the platelet injection orifices in the venturi throat. Idle and main fuel delivery circuits are integrated into the injector assembly and multiple throttle plates are provided so that only one injector and venturi is effective during idle operation.

摘要: A rocket according to the present disclosure has a primary combustion chamber and a primary nozzle for producing thrust. A secondary chamber and a movable secondary nozzle are provided, and an air inlet provides communication to the secondary chamber. In one position of the nozzle, the secondary nozzle closes the air inlet, and the primary combustion chamber and primary nozzle provide maximum thrust for launch or boost purposes. In a second position of the secondary nozzle, the air inlet is open to admit air into the secondary chamber where it mixes with exhaust gas from the primary combustion chamber and burns any unburned fuel in the exhaust to provide acceleration with minimum fuel expenditure at supersonic velocities. In a third position of the secondary nozzle, the nozzle is moved rearward and the fueloxidizer ratio to the primary combustion chamber is adjusted so that the exhaust gas discharged through the primary nozzle contains a high percentage of fuel. The fuel is burned in the secondary chamber with air admitted through the air inlet to sustain supersonic cruising velocities.

摘要: An induction motor deceleration control circuit capable of activating apparatus peripheral to the induction motor when the motor output shaft is at a predetermined speed and position, and then stopping the output shaft precisely at a predetermined position, all in a rapid one-step operation, is illustrated herein. The control circuit includes apparatus for providing an AC drive signal to the induction motor, a control for reducing the frequency of that AC drive signal in order to reduce the operating speed of the motor, a feedback loop for identifying the speed and position of the motor output shaft, and a brake control responsive to the feedback loop for converting the AC drive signal to a DC braking signal when the motor shaft slows to a predetermined speed and reaches a predetermined position. The controlled application of a braking signal in accordance with motor output shaft speed and position ensures that the shaft will only rotate through a known angle after application of the braking force and thus stop precisely at a predetermined distance. The control circuit also includes apparatus responsive to the feedback circuit for activating apparatus peripheral to the induction motor just before the induction motor is stopped, when the motor output shaft has a predetermined speed and position.
