Abstract:
The invention relates to wind turbines, particularly to controlling reactive power exchange between a power grid and a wind power plant. The wind power plant has a plurality of wind turbine generators each having a corresponding power converter with a converter controller. Further, the wind power plant has a power plant transformer with an on load tap changer coupled between the wind power plant and the power grid. The power plant controller is regulating the on load tap changer and is generating reactive component setpoints for the wind turbine generators, when determining a need for production of short-term reactive power due to a sudden change in reactive power measured at the point of common coupling.

Abstract:
A method and control arrangement are disclosed for controlling power output of a wind power plant (WPP) including a plurality of wind turbine generators (WTGs). The method includes determining that overboosting is required for the WPP to meet a power demand at the WPP, and determining, for at least a first WTG of the plurality of WTGs, a corresponding amount of overboost capacity. The method further includes generating, based on the determined amount of overboost capacity, control signals causing the first WTG to increase its power output through overboosting to thereby fulfill at least a portion of the power demand.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a power plant connected to an electrical grid and a method for controlling the power plant. The power plant comprises one or more power generators and at least one synchronous condenser. The power generators may be wind turbine generators, solar photovoltaic elements or other kinds of renewable power generators. During a deviation in frequency on the electrical grid, the synchronous condenser counteracts the frequency deviation, but it may also unintentional supply active power during the frequency event. The control method is controlling the active power supply from the power generators during the frequency events based only on the active power output from the power generators.
Abstract:
Embodiments provide for the control of a power plant including several generators by setting a reference frame for the generators with a first and a second axis; measuring a grid demand voltage at the shared connection point; determining active and reactive currents required at the shared connection point based on the grid demand voltage and grid codes; transforming the active and reactive currents required at the shared connection point to the reference frame where the first axis defines a first current set point and the second axis defines a second current set point; and dispatching the first and second current set points to generator controllers associated with each generator. Current set points may be generated for positive/negative frames, direct quadrature frames, real/imaginary frames and may be set evenly for all generators or adjusted per generator.

Abstract:
There is provided a method of operating a renewable power plant that is connected to a wider power network by a bus. The method comprises: identifying a predetermined voltage condition of the renewable power plant or of the bus; controlling the renewable power plant to maintain zero reactive power exchange at the bus for a first period; calculating an average voltage level of the bus that was achieved during the first period; and controlling the renewable power plant to maintain the voltage output at a set voltage level for a second period, the set voltage level being substantially equal to the calculated average voltage level. The method ensures that voltage oscillations due to a push-pull phenomenon between a power plant controller and the power network do not upset the stability of the grid.
