    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a display substrate, an opposite substrate coupled to and facing the display substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the display substrate and the opposite substrate. The display substrate includes a gate line extending in a first direction, a data line extending in a second direction crossing the first direction, a shielding electrode disposed along the data line covering the data line, a protruding electrode extending from the shielding electrode partially covering the gate line, and a pixel electrode electrically insulated from the shielding electrode and configured to receive a signal from the gate and data lines.

    Abstract: A display panel includes a first substrate and a spaced apart second substrate and a protection or other additional film attached to an outer and laterally extending major surface of the first substrate. The first substrate includes a first base substrate having a major lateral surface subdivided into a display region and a peripheral region, a color filter member disposing on the first base substrate and having a plurality of color filters, a light blocking member disposing on the peripheral region of the first base substrate and an overcoating member disposing on the color filter member and on the light blocking member and extending to cover a sidewall surface of the light blocking member. The extend overcoating member helps block charged particles from reaching the light blocking member, thus preventing discoloration of the color filter due to influx of static electricity associated with the charged particles.

    Abstract: A manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display includes forming display pixels which display an image and dummy pixels which do not display the image on a lower substrate including a display area and a non-display area positioned in at least one side outside the display area, coating a light blocking member material layer on a first dead space area adjacent to the display area and having a dummy area where the dummy pixels are positioned, a second dead space area adjacent to the first dead space area, and a third dead space area adjacent to the second dead space area in the non-display area, and forming first to third light blocking members through exposure by using an optical mask in which at least two or more halftone regions and a full-tone region are mixed.
