Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting dual-port virtual router in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a dual port router abstraction can provide a simple way for enabling subnet-to-subnet router functionality to be defined based on a switch hardware implementation. A virtual dual-port router can logically be connected outside a corresponding switch port. This virtual dual-port router can provide an InfiniBand specification compliant view to a standard management entity, such as a Subnet Manager. In accordance with an embodiment, a dual-ported router model implies that different subnets can be connected in a way where each subnet fully controls the forwarding of packets as well as address mappings in the ingress path to the subnet.

Abstract: Systems and methods for unicast traffic across multiple subnets in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a local inter-subnet manager (ISM) can allocate at least one router port in the local subnet for receiving traffic for a relevant end node belonging to an inter-subnet partition (ISP) for each remote subnet that also comprises end nodes sharing a same ISP membership, and can also set up address mappings for the relevant GID(s) (e.g., GID or GUID to LID mapping).

Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting SMA level handling to ensure subnet integrity in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, in order to ensure subnet integrity, a SMA at an entry port can operate such that all incoming packets are forwarded to an embedded processor (firmware) no matter where the packet is addressed. Each incoming packet can thus be filtered by an embedded processor. If the packet is valid (for example, includes a second receiver flag and is addressed appropriately), the packet can be allowed. However, if some portion of the validation fails, the packet can be dropped before being allowed entry into the subnet, thus ensuring the integrity of the subnet from erroneous and/or dangerous packets.

By adding a scalable representation of switch port status at each switch (both physical and virtual)—instead of getting all switch port changes individually, the scalable representation of switch port status can combine a number of ports that can scale by just using a few bits of information for each port's status.

Abstract: System and method for supporting node role attributes in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a node role attribute can comprise a vendor defined subnet management attribute. When a subnet manager attempts to discover a high performance computing environment, such as an InfiniBand subnet, or a switch topology, identifying a topology is quite complex when subnet manager can only observe connectivity, without context behind the connectivity (the roles of the different nodes in the connectivity). However, when a subnet has a node role attribute enabled, the subnet manager can map the interconnect more effectively as it can discover not only the connectivity during the initial sweep, but it can also discover the role of each node discovered, thus leading to a more efficient interconnect discovery.

Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting inter subnet control plane protocol for consistent multicast membership and connectivity across multiple subnets in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, by associating a multicast group with an inter-subnet partition, and enforcing a dedicated router port for the multicast group, multicast loop avoidance can be provided for between connected subnets. Because only a single router port is selected as being capable of handling the MC packet, no other router port in the subnet can then pass a multicast packet back to the originating subnet.

The SM can configure and set a data attribute at a switch port configured as a router port such that incoming data packets can be checked against the attribute to determine whether the data packet's destination is allowed or disallowed to receive inter-subnet data traffic.

Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting SMA level abstractions at router ports for GRH to LRH mapping tables in a high performance computing environment. Ingress port mapping of GRH to new LRH can be reduced to minimally include DGID to DLID mapping. By further reducing the complexity by assuming all packets received at a subnet are addressed to a correct subnet (and also taking into account that correct subnet destination can be checked independently of the individual mapping entries), the DGID address can be simplified to a DGUID address, allowing for additional mappings within a same memory size.

Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting multiple LIDs for dual-port virtual routers in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a dual port router abstraction can provide a simple way for enabling subnet-to-subnet router functionality to be defined based on a switch hardware implementation. A virtual dual-port router can logically be connected outside a corresponding switch port. This virtual dual-port router can provide an InfiniBand specification compliant view to a standard management entity, such as a Subnet Manager. In order to allow for packets addressed outside of a local subnet and for those packets addressed to a switch port configured as a router port within a local subnet, the subnet manager can configure the switch port configured as a router port with two or more local identifiers.
