Abstract:
There is provided a method, comprising: receiving, by a target node of a wireless access network, a signal from a first source node; determining the angular sector in which the first source node is located with respect to the target node; responding to the signal by both transmitting a first message omni-directionally and transmitting a second message directionally towards the angular sector; and establishing a first resource reservation on a frequency channel at least partly on the basis of transmitting the first message and the second message, wherein the first resource reservation is for performing directional data transfer with the first source node.
Abstract:
This document discloses a solution for carrying out narrowband communications in a wireless network. According to an aspect, a method comprises in an apparatus: detecting at least one content notification message indicating contents of each of a plurality of messages frequency-multiplexed with a discovery message to parallel sub-channels of a channel in a bi-directional wireless network; selecting autonomously a sub-channel on the basis of the detected content notification message; and acquiring a message through the selected sub-channel.
Abstract:
Uplink data indication transmission(s) are received over a subband and over OFDM symbol(s) from STA(s) in a wireless communication system. The received uplink data indication transmission(s) are decoded to determine a unique codeword for each of the STA(s). From the determined unique codewords and using a mapping between station IDs and codewords in a codebook, a unique station ID is determined for each of the STA(s). For STA(s) determined to have sent the uplink data indication, other operations are performed to prepare for subsequent reception of uplink data from the STA(s) determined to have sent the uplink data indication.
Abstract:
When contending for access to a radio channel (for example CSMA/CA in Wi-Fi), an apparatus selects a first clear channel assessment (CCA) threshold that is higher than a minimum; determines to temporarily use a second CCA threshold that is lower than the first CCA threshold; and based on this determination it selects the second CCA threshold for a specified time period. In one embodiment this determination is based on the apparatus' use of a spectrum relative to a threshold usage level which may be calculated as a number of successful transmissions by the apparatus on the spectrum over a predefined time period; and/or as a deferring time experienced by the apparatus with respect to the spectrum over a predefined time period. In an embodiment the specified time period comprises a backoff time, and the determination to temporarily use the second CCA threshold is triggered by a periodic timer.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatus and program products are disclosed for allowing wireless devices in two wireless access networks whose coverage areas overlap to communicate with their respective access nodes. Groups may be assigned to wireless devices in the access networks and the groups may be used by wireless devices in the access networks to determine whether to access a communication medium or not. Received powers may also be used by wireless devices in the access networks to determine whether or not to access a communication medium. A wireless device in a first access network can determine whether to access (e.g., compete for access to) the communication medium by comparing a measured power of transmission from a second access node with an indication of a minimum received power above which wireless devices in a second access network formed by a second access node are allowed to contend for access to the communication medium.
Abstract:
An access point in a random access wireless network is presented, which performs medium access control for transmissions from a plurality of stations to the access point using a carrier sense multiple access protocol. The CSMA protocol is based on the access point having a variable sensitivity level to detecting other transmissions on a wireless channel in order to avoid data collisions. In a dense network environment, the sensitivity level can be reduced to avoid detecting transmissions to other access points, and thus improve area efficiency.

Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses, and computer programs for assigning measurement groups in a wireless network are disclosed. The measurement group may be announced by measurement group information comprised in a broadcast message transmitted in the wireless network. Reporting may be triggered by transmission of a request-to-report message transmitted in the wireless network.
Abstract:
One embodiment is directed to a method comprising selecting a group of packets for at least one access category, determining a set of contention parameters based on the at least one access category, transmitting the selected group of packets by using the determined set of contention parameters, obtaining information about collision of the transmitted group of packets, and determining an updated set of contention parameters based on the obtained collision information and a predefined condition.
