Abstract:
An optical radiation sensor device for detecting radiation in a radiation field having a thickness. A preferred embodiment of the device includes a radiation source and a radiation sensor element positioned to receive radiation from the radiation source. A motor (or other motive means) is provided to alter the thickness of the radiation field from a first thickness to a second thickness. The sensor element is capable of detecting and responding to incident radiation from radiation source at the first thickness and at the second thickness. The optical radiation sensor device allows for determination of radiation (preferably ultraviolet radiation) transmittance of a fluid of interest.
Abstract:
The present invention provides 1,4 substituted piperazines, 1,4 substituted piperidines, and 1-substituted, 4-alkylidenyl peperidines compounds. The compounds of the invention are dual acting molecules having both leukotriene inhibition properties as well as antihistaminergic properties. The compounds of the invention are useful for treating conditions in which there is likely to be a histamine and/or leukotriene component. These conditions include preferable asthma, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, sinusitus, conjunctivitis, food allergy, scombroid poisoning, psoriasis, urticaria, pruritus, eczema, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, thrombotic disease and otitis media. Also provided are methods of treating asthma and rhinitis by administering an effective asthma and rhinitis-relieving amount of the compounds to a subject in need thereof.
Abstract:
The invention is an apparatus for initiating a wellbore perforator comprising a first firing head for generating a first explosive signal when a first actuation signal is applied to the first firing head, a second firing head for generating a second explosive signal when a second actuation signal is applied to the second firing head, a first means for transferring the first explosive signal to shaped charges in the perforator including a first bulkhead interposed between the shaped charges and the first means for preventing transfer of low order initiation of the first means to the shaped charges, and a second means for transferring the second explosive signal to the shaped charges including a second bulkhead interposed between the shaped charges and the second means for preventing transfer of low order initiation of the second means to the shaped charges.
Abstract:
The invention is a firing circuit for an exploding bridgewire explosive detonator which is activated only by application of an alternating current of a preselected frequency. The firing circuit comprises a bandpass filter, a voltage multiplier, and a discharge circuit. The invention can be configured to selectively detonate a plurality of exploding bridgewire detonators by assembling a plurality of firing circuits for each exploding bridgewire, each firing circuit having a bandpass filter with a different preselected frequency.
Abstract:
Smokable rods of cigarettes are manufactured using wrapping materials that incorporate at least one fibrous material (e.g., flax fibers, hardwood pulp fibers and/or softwood pulp fibers) at least one filler material (e.g., calcium carbonate in particulate form). The wrapping materials possess multi-layer coatings. The wrapping materials possess coatings in the form of series of spaced apart bands, each band possessing a series of layers. At least one of the coating layers can have a filler material dispersed or suspended within a film-forming material of that layer.

Abstract:
A system that compares, ranks, sorts and grades animals or carcasses into groups of like kinds according to previously determined predicted maximum values. For live animals, the system uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on a single occasion to evaluate the animal and determine a number of days the animal must be fed to reach a maximum value. For carcasses, the system evaluates the carcass to grade the quality and quantity of meat the carcass will provide. The system also combines MRI imaging with a three-dimensional system to refine the number of days remaining for the animal to reach a maximum value, and the system, when used in a feedlot, will direct the animal to a feed pen based on the number of days remaining for the animal to reach maximum value.

For a representative wrapping material, a pattern of applied to the wire side major surface of the wrapping material substrate as a plurality of layers, and at least one of the layers includes ethylcellulose and calcium carbonate. For that layer, the calcium carbonate is present in an amount greater than the ethylcellulose, on a weight basis. The ethylcellulose and calcium carbonate typically are applied as part of a non-aqueous formulation incorporating iso-propyl acetate, triacetin and lecithin.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the combination of muscarinic agonists with narcotic analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or other analgesic drugs and to their use as antinociception (pain relief) agents. In particular, the invention relates to a combination of a specific class of M4 selective muscarinic agonists with narcotic analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or other analgesic drugs.
