    Abstract: A route configuration method includes that after a first terminal moves out of a service scope of a user plane function (UPF) that currently provides a service for the first terminal, a first session management function (SMF) inserts a first intermediate UPF (I-UPF) into a user plane path of the first terminal, and configures, for the first I-UPF, a first routing rule corresponding to a second terminal. The first routing rule is used to send a packet whose destination address information is address information of the second terminal to a second anchor UPF (A-UPF). Therefore, a packet with a destination address information that is the address information of the second terminal can be directly forwarded by the first I-UPF to the first A-UPF, instead of being forwarded by the first I-UPF to the second A-UPF through the first A-UPF.

    Abstract: Example communication methods and apparatus are described. One example method includes determining a first encapsulation identifier corresponding to an Ethernet session by a control plane network element and sending the first encapsulation identifier corresponding to the Ethernet session to a user plane network element, where the first encapsulation identifier is used to instruct the user plane network element to process a data packet corresponding to the Ethernet session based on the first encapsulation identifier. The terminal device determines the first encapsulation identifier corresponding to the Ethernet session and encapsulates an uplink data packet based on the first encapsulation identifier, where the uplink data packet is a data packet triggered by an application program bound to the Ethernet session. The encapsulated data packet is mapped to the Ethernet session corresponding to the first encapsulation identifier for transmission based on the first encapsulation identifier.

The method includes: A mobility management network element obtains external authentication indication information. The mobility management network element sends a first request message to a terminal based on the external authentication indication information, where the first request message is used to request external authentication. The mobility management network element receives a first non-access stratum NAS message from the terminal. The mobility management network element sends related information of an external entity to an authentication server function network element based on the first NAS message, where the related information of the external entity is used to address the external entity, and the external entity is configured to perform authentication on the terminal.     Abstract: A routing rule management method and a communications apparatus, where after a first user plane function network element receives, through a protocol data unit (PDU) session, a first data packet, from a terminal, whose source address is a first address, the first user plane function network element generates a first routing rule corresponding to the PDU session when determining that the first address is an unknown media access control (MAC) address, and where the first routing rule is used to forward, to the PDU session, a data packet sent to the first address. After detecting the unknown MAC address, the first user plane function network element may generate a routing rule corresponding to the unknown MAC address without involvement of a session management function network element.

    Abstract: A session handling method and a related device, where the method includes: receiving, by a first access and mobility management function (AMF) network element, a first message from a second AMF network element, where the first message includes information about a network slice corresponding to current sessions of a terminal; when determining that the first AMF network element does not support a network slice corresponding to a first session, sending, by the first AMF network element, a first notification message to the second AMF network element, where the first notification message notifies that the first AMF network element does not support the network slice corresponding to the first session; and releasing, by the second AMF network element, a network resource corresponding to the first session. A waste of network resources can be reduced using this application.
