Abstract: An apparatus is described that includes a display panel and a sensor. The display panel includes an array of pixels configured to direct light through a front side of the display panel. Each pixel includes sub-pixels, each of which includes an organic light emitting diode (OLED) and an integrated circuit (IC) for controlling an electrical current to the OLED. The sensor is arranged at a back side of the display panel. The sensor includes an emitter configured to emit electromagnetic radiation transmitted through a first area of the display panel. The IC of sub-pixels of the array of pixels outside the first area includes a first IC arrangement. The IC of sub-pixels of the array of pixels within the first area includes a transistor in addition to the first IC arrangement. The transistor is configured to operate as a control switch controlling emission of light from the sub-pixel.

Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques for mitigating a display artifact that may result from first frame rate effects at low luminance levels. For example, in an implementation, a computer-implemented method includes receiving display data to be presented on a display of an electronic device at a display driver. At the display driver, a luminance level of the display data is determined. Responsive to determining at the display driver that the luminance level is below a threshold luminance level, a gray level is determined for one or more regions of the display data. Responsive to determining at the display driver that the gray level for at least one region of the one or more regions is below a baseline gray level for the threshold luminance level, the gray level is increased to an adjusted gray level equal to at least the baseline gray level.

Abstract: A display panel includes an array of pixels extending in a plane and arranged in rows, wherein a first plurality of the rows extend to an edge of the pixel array and one or more rows at a corner of the pixel array are recessed from the edge. The display panel includes driver circuits each connected to a corresponding row of the pixel array and occupying an area in the plane, the area having a long dimension and an orthogonal short dimension. A first set of driver circuits are connected to corresponding rows of the first plurality of rows and a second set of driver circuits are connected to corresponding rows at the corner of the pixel array. The long dimension of each of the drivers of the first set of drivers is greater than the long dimension of each of the drivers of the second set of drivers.

Abstract: The subject matter described in this disclosure can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for operating a display device that includes a pixel array addressed by a set of data lines and a set of scan lines. A method includes: addressing the set of data lines with first image data; sending a first scan signal to a first line of pixels using a first scan line to move the first image data to the first line of pixels; activating the first line of pixels to emit light; sending a second scan signal to a second line of pixels using a second scan line, without having addressed the set of data lines with image data after having addressed the set of data lines with the first image data; and activating the second line of pixels to emit light after the second scan signal has been sent.

Abstract: In general, techniques are described for image modification for under-display sensors. A computing device comprising a display, one or more sensors positioned underneath the display, and one or more processors may be configured to perform various aspects of the techniques. The display may be configured to allow the one or more sensors to operate through the display. The one or more processors may be configured to determine an ambient light level, and modify, based on the ambient light level, an area of an image to obtain a modified image. The area of the image may correspond to pixels of the display positioned above the one or more sensors or correspond to pixels of the display that are not positioned above the one or more sensors. The one or more processors may then interface, with the display, to output the modified image.

Abstract: A method includes: (a) receiving initial image frame data to display an image frame on a display panel, a luminance of each pixel of the display corresponding to a gray level; (b) identifying dark pixels at or below a first threshold gray level; (c) identifying pixels to be modified as a subset of the dark pixels neighbored by at least one bright pixel exceeding a second threshold gray level; (d) increasing by an incremental amount the gray level of the pixels to be modified, providing modified image frame data composed of: (i) the dark pixels that are neighbored by at least one bright pixel having gray levels that have been increased by the incremental gray level amount, and (ii) other pixels that have gray levels from the initial image frame data; and (e) displaying the image frame using the modified image frame data.

Abstract: Techniques to provide uniform luminance across a computing device display, such as an active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display. In some examples, a computing device display may include a hole within the active area of the display that may be used for a camera, a button or some other function. The hole may result in a non-uniform voltage drop in a power supply mesh in regions of the active area near the hole. The power supply mesh may provide electrical energy to elements of the display. The techniques of this disclosure include portions of the power supply mesh that are not connected to the voltage supply bus to ensure a uniform voltage drop across the active area of the display.

Abstract: A display configuration to extend the light emitting and touch sensitive portion of a display panel into areas normally reserved for other light devices is disclosed. In the configuration, light devices and the display panel are configured to operate together. The display panel may include an aperture through the display panel to provide an unobstructed light path to a light device. The display panel may also include a routing area to provide space for data lines feeding pixels to be rerouted around the aperture. The routing area is partially obstructed by data lines but otherwise transparent. Accordingly, some display devices may be positioned behind the routing area and still operate.
