Abstract: A wireless communication device identifies an access point for a wireless network. The device initiates a connection procedure to establish a wireless connection between the wireless communication device and the access point, and the connection procedure includes: (i) selecting a degraded set of uplink transmission quality parameters that correspond to a higher signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio than a baseline set of uplink transmission quality parameters, and (ii) transmitting messages from the wireless communication device to the access point during the connection procedure according to the degraded set of uplink transmission quality parameters. The wireless network connection can be established between the wireless communication device and the access point as a result of completion of the connection procedure, despite the wireless communication device transmitting messages to the access point during the connection procedure according to the degraded set of uplink transmission quality parameters.

Abstract: An access system for a wireless local area network is provided. The access system initiates operation in a first frequency band of a plurality of frequency bands of the wireless local area network to provide one or more wireless client devices of the wireless local area network with access to a wireless wide area network. The access system also processes one or more association requests received in the first frequency band to identify one or more associated wireless client device. The access system also determines whether each of the one or more associated wireless client devices supports a second frequency band. The access system also sends a request to the one or more associated wireless client devices to transition from the first frequency band to the second frequency band based on determining that each of the one or more associated wireless client devices supports the second frequency band.

Abstract: A communication device (202) comprises one or more sensors (208) configured to generate sensor data, a wireless interface (206, 306), and a processor (210, 310). The wireless interface is configured to establish a connection with a remote device (402) according to a short-range wireless communication protocol and to transmit one or more signals to the remote device, the one or more signals representing information configured according to a media format. The processor is configured to determine at least one activity mode based on the sensor data from the one or more sensors on at least one of the communication device or the remote device, and during the transmission of the one or more signals, control the wireless interface to increase a transmit power level to a maximum transmit power level based on the determined activity mode.
