Abstract: A medical device can include an elongate member that defines a lumen and a resection element that extends through the elongate member lumen. The elongate member can include a side window at a distal portion and a front window at a distal end of the elongate member and proximate to the side window. The front window can define an opening at the elongate member distal end. The resection element can be movable within the elongate member lumen where a distal end of the resection element can be exposed at the front window. The resection element can have a side window that is alignable with the elongate member side window. In addition, the resection element can define an electrically active electrode and the elongate member can define a return electrode.

Abstract: A system for analyzing a reflected signal during a laser procedure can include a surgical scope. A first light source emitter can be configurable to emit a first signal having a first (e.g., a non-visible) spectrum. A second light source emitter can be configurable to emit a second signal having a second spectrum (e.g., a visible or infrared (IR) spectrum). Each of the first or the second light source emitters can be coupled to or included within the surgical scope. The system can include an optical sensor configurable to detect and analyze a third signal returned from the surface of an object in response to the emitted second signal. The returned third signal can be analyzed to determine whether a reflected absolute or relative intensity or an absolute or relative spectral signature meets at least one criterion, thereby triggering at least one of: warning a user or adjusting the first signal.

Abstract: An optical fiber having a distal end extending from a distal end of an endoscope can direct light to and from a target. An interferometer can receive first light pulses from a first frequency comb having a first repetition rate, form reference arm light pulses and measurement arm light pulses from the first light pulses, direct the measurement arm light pulses to and from the target via the optical fiber to form return light pulses, and interfere the return light pulses with the reference arm light pulses to form interferometer output pulses. A beamsplitter can interfere the interferometer output pulses with second light pulses from a second frequency comb having a second repetition rate to form system output pulses. Processor circuitry can determine, from a time duration between consecutive system output pulses, a spacing between the optical fiber and the target, and can take an action in response.

Abstract: In a laser tissue ablation system, a distal end of an optical fiber can extend from an endoscope. The optical fiber can receive therapeutic laser light pulses at first times, receive measurement light pulses at second times, direct the therapeutic laser light pulses and the measurement light pulses toward a target, collect, as collected light pulses, at least some of the measurement light pulses that are reflected from the target, and direct, as return light pulses, at least some of the collected light pulses away from the distal end of the optical fiber. An optical detector can sense at least some of the return light pulses. Processor circuitry can perform a time-of-flight analysis of the sensed return light pulses to determine a spacing between the distal end of the optical fiber and the target and can generate a spacing data signal representing the determined spacing.

Abstract: A method for delivering surgical material comprises inserting a delivery device into an anatomic area, coupling a surgical material delivery system to the delivery device, the surgical material delivery system having a reservoir of surgical material, positioning an anatomic electrode relative to the anatomic area, applying a first charge to the anatomic electrode, dispensing surgical material from the delivery device, applying a second charge to surgical material leaving the delivery device opposite the first charge, and delivering charged surgical material to the anatomic area proximate the anatomic electrode via a directional-oriented electrostatic field. A surgical system comprises an insertion shaft comprising a passageway and a discharge opening, a first electrode connected to the insertion shaft configured to impart electrical charge to surgical material flowing through the passageway, and a second electrode connected to the insertion shaft configured to impart electrical charge to tissue in contact with the second electrode.
