Abstract: An elastomeric composition is disclosed. The elastomeric composition includes, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr): about 5 to about 40 phr of styrene/butadiene copolymer; about 60 to about 100 phr of natural mbber or polyisoprene; a curative agent; an antioxidant; about 1 to about 20 phr carbon black; about 5 to about 40 phr plasticizing agent; about 40 to about 80 phr silica; about 1 to about 20 phr silane coupling agent and about 5 to about 30 phr of a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethyl-ene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl mbber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer. The polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl mbber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer may be functionalized.

Abstract: An elastomeric composition is disclosed. The polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly (isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer may be functionalized.

Abstract: Elastomeric compositions comprising propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer based polyolefin additives useful in tire tread compositions. The elastomeric compositions comprise 100 phr (parts by weight per hundred parts of total elastomer) diene elastomers; about 0 to about 80 phr of processing oil; 0 to about 80 phr of a hydrocarbon resin; about 60 to about 140 phr of filler; a curative agent; and about 5 to about 30 phr of a silane functionalized propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer. The silane functionalized propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer comprises from about 2 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of ethylene and/or C4-C20 α-olefins derived units, from 0.5 to 10 wt % of diene derived units, and a silane coupling agent. The present elastomeric compositions are useful as tire tread compositions for improved tire performance.

Abstract: A functionalized polyolefin and a tire tread composition comprising the functionalized polyolefin is described. The functionalized polyolefin comprises a vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefin in which the vinyl/vinylidene terminus is functionalized with an alkoxysilane or an alkylsilane and optionally having ether, hydroxyl and/or amine functionality. The invention is also directed to the synthesis of vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefins, functionalization at the vinyl/vinylidene terminus with an alkoxysilane or an alkylsilane and optionally having ether, hydroxyl and/or amine functionality.

Abstract: An elastomeric composition and method incorporating a hydrocarbon polymer modifier with improved permanence. The composition comprises elastomer, filler and silane-functionalized hydrocarbon polymer modifier (Si-HPM) adapted to couple the Si-HPM to the elastomer, filler or both, wherein the Si-HPM comprises an interpolymer of monomers chosen from piperylenes, cyclic pentadienes, aromatics, limonenes, pinenes, amylenes, and combinations thereof. The method comprises melt processing a mixture to form the elastomeric composition in the shape of an article, wherein the mixture comprises elastomer, Si-HPM, silica, bifunctional organosilane crosslinking agent; and curing the elastomeric composition to form the article. Also disclosed are a silylated hydrocarbon polymer modifier coupled with a bifunctional organosilane crosslinking agent, and a silica-coupled hydrocarbon polymer modifier coupled to the silica via the bifunctional organosilane crosslinking agent.
