    摘要: A surgical instrument includes a frame structure defining proximal and distal portions. The proximal portion has an articulating arm for repositionably mounting to a base and the distal portion supporting a stabilizing member. An attachment mounts on the stabilizing member, the attachment being configured and dimensioned such that upon contact with the heart the engaged heart tissue bulges outward. A method of surgery using the attachment includes providing a frame structure defining proximal and distal portions, the proximal portion being repositionably mountable to a base, supporting an attachment on the stabilizng member and engaging heart tissue with the attachment such that the tissue bulges outward to better present the tissue for surgery.

    摘要: The surgical suturing apparatus is configured to pass a surgical suturing needle having an associated length of suture material attached thereto between opposed pairs of jaws. The surgical suturing apparatus generally includes a housing having an elongated tubular portion extending distally therefrom. A pair of jaws extend distally from the elongated tubular portion and are each individually longitudinally movable with respect to the elongated tubular portion and with respect to each other. Each of the jaw structures includes a jaw and a securing mechanism for tightly holding the surgical needle within the jaw. Parts of the securing mechanism engaging the needle also move longitudinally with respect to the associated jaw and the elongated tubular portion. Various control structures are provided to advance the securing mechanism relative to its associated jaw to secure the surgical needle therein and to move the entire jaw structure longitudinally with respect to the suturing apparatus.

The surgical instrument includes a handle assembly having a movable handle; an endoscopic portion extending distally from the handle and defining a longitudinal axis; a pair of jaw members; and a drive assembly. The jaw members are disposed adjacent a distal end of the endoscopic portion and extend generally distally therefrom. Each jaw member is longitudinally curved with respect to the longitudinal axis. At least one jaw member is movable with respect to the other between open and approximated positions. A first jaw member includes a channel having a longitudinally-extending slot therein. The drive assembly is advanced distally through at least a portion of the length of the jaw members in response to at least a partial actuation of the movable handle. A lower portion of the drive assembly is configured and dimensioned to travel at least partially within the longitudinally-extending slot of the channel.
