    Abstract: Technologies for testing resiliency of a data network with real-world accuracy without affecting the flow of production data through the network. A method according to the technologies may include receiving a production data packet and determining a preferred data route toward a destination node for the production data packet based on a first routing information base, wherein the first routing information base includes a database where routes and route metadata are stored according to a routing protocol. The method may also include, receiving a test data packet, and determining an alternate data route toward the destination node for the test data packet based on a second routing information base, wherein the second routing information base simulates an error in the preferred data route. The method may include sending the production data packet to the preferred data route and sending the test data packet to the alternate data route.

    Abstract: Techniques are presented for evaluating Equal Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) performance in a network that includes a plurality of nodes. According to an example embodiment, a method is provided that includes obtaining information indicating equal cost multi-path (ECMP) paths in the network and a branch node in the network. For the branch node in the network, the method includes instantiating a virtual network function that simulates an ECMP hashing algorithm employed by the branch node to select one of multiple egress interface of the branch node; providing to the virtual network function for the branch node, a query containing entropy information as input to the ECMP hashing algorithm that returns interface selection results; and obtaining from the virtual network function a reply that includes the interface selection results. The method further includes evaluating ECMP performance in the network based on the interface selection results obtained for the branch node.

    Abstract: A method is performed by a node configured to implement an Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) protocol for rapid link failure detection. The node receives peer OAM packets sent by a peer node over a link at a peer periodic interval. While in a first mode of the OAM protocol, the node determines whether the peer node is reachable based on the peer OAM packets, sends OAM packets to the peer node at a periodic interval to indicate to the peer node that the node is reachable, and responsive to detecting a critical condition of the node that impairs the sending the OAM packets, transitions to a second mode of the OAM protocol. While in the second mode, the node adds, to the peer OAM packets, a code to indicate the critical condition, and reflects the peer OAM packets with the code back to the peer node.

    Abstract: In one aspect, a method for monitoring a Fast Re-Route (FRR) path between a source node (Node-S) and a destination node (Node-E) in a network, includes generating a discovery-probe at the source node (Node-S) to detect at least one node with an FRR indicator along the FRR path that includes a plurality of next available nodes. The method also includes upon the discovery probe reaching a first node with the FRR indicator, generating a primary probe configured to detect a primary path and a repair probe configured to detect a repair path. The method also includes in response to receiving the primary probe via the primary path and the repair probe via the repair path at the destination node, sending the primary probe and the repair probe back to the source node to monitor the FRR path between the source node and the destination node.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for validating a hardware path capability are provided. The method includes generating, at an ingress node of a network, an operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) probe packet having an OAM bit set associated with validating the hardware path capability, wherein the OAM probe packet comprises a plurality of features; indicating, by each respective intermediate node of a plurality of intermediate nodes in the network along a network path and as instructed by the OAM bit set, whether the respective intermediate node can support the respective feature of the plurality of features; generating, at an egress node associated with the network path, a report regarding whether the plurality of intermediate nodes can support each respective feature of the plurality of features within the OAM probe packet; and determining, based on the report, whether to enable customer traffic implementing the plurality of features along the network path.

    Abstract: A network device has a first OS component, a second OS component is added to run concurrently with the first. The first OS component transmits routing information to the second OS component where it is stored in memory. The second OS component registers with a routing infrastructure to receive packets that are routed to the first OS component. A timestamp and a first ID are added to a first instance of a packet and transmitted to the first OS component. The timestamp and a second ID are added to a second instance of the packet and transmitted to the second OS component. First functionality data for the first OS component is transmitted to a controller. Second functionality data for the second OS component is transmitted to the controller. The first and second functionality data are compared to determine whether to replace the first OS component with the second OS component.
