    Abstract: In one embodiment, a method comprises attaching, by a constrained network device in a data network, to a first parent network device in a tree-based storing mode topology in response to receiving a first advertisement message generated by the first parent network device; outputting to the first parent network device a plurality of routes stored in the constrained network device, the routes identifying destinations reachable via the constrained network device; determining, by the constrained network device, that the first parent network device is encountering saturation of stored routes based on the constrained network device receiving a second advertisement message from the first parent network device; and eliminating, by the constrained network device, the saturation encountered by the first parent network device based on moving at least a portion of the routes from the first parent network device to a second parent network device in the tree-based storing mode topology.

    Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for identifying a deployment scheme for forming a wireless mesh network based on environmental characteristics and an optimum deployment scheme. In some examples, a geographical area for deployment of a wireless mesh network is identified. Additionally, environmental information of the geographical area can be collected. Network characteristics of an optimum deployment scheme for forming the wireless mesh network can be defined. As follows, a deployment scheme for forming the wireless mesh network can be identified based on the network characteristics of the optimum deployment scheme and the environmental information of the geographical area.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a parent network device, operating according to a first Trickle operation using a first selected minimum contention interval, responds to detecting a loss of attached child network devices by starting a second Trickle operation using a second selected minimum contention interval. The second Trickle operation includes maintaining the second selected minimum contention interval for subsequent iterations of the second Trickle operation. The parent network device initiates an accelerated transmission rate of the advertisement message that is faster than the first and second Trickle operations (using a third selected minimum contention interval less than the first minimum contention interval) in response to receiving a message from one of the lost child network devices, and resumes the first Trickle operation upon recovery of all the lost child network devices.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a method comprises: identifying, by a low power and lossy network (LLN) device in a low power and lossy network, a minimum distance value and a distance limit value for limiting multicast propagation, initiated at the LLN device, of a multicast data message in the LLN; and multicast transmitting, by the LLN device, the multicast data message with a current distance field specifying the minimum distance value and a distance limit field specifying the distance limit value, the multicast transmitting causing a receiving LLN device having a corresponding rank in the LLN to respond to the multicast data message by: (1) determining an updated distance based on adding to the current distance field a rank difference between the receiving LLN device and the LLN device, and (2) selectively retransmitting the multicast data message if the updated distance is less than the distance limit value.
