摘要： A protective housing is locked onto the fifth-wheel king pin of a tractor-trailer connection to prevent its being engaged by an unauthorized tractor. A housing ring closely encircles the king pin and carries a projecting lock body housing a cylindrical latch bolt spring pressed into engagement with the king pin groove. The latch bolt is rotated to release position by a keyactuated lock cylinder having its key-entrance face presented at the front face of the lock body. An armor shield having a lockinsertion opening is welded in spaced relation to that face to define a slot to receive a guard plate which is inserted across the lock-insertion opening after a lock cylinder and core have been inserted. The guard plate carries a rotatable, key-slotted disk in an opening coaxial with the key plug of the lock, which protects the key plug from drilling and from forceful withdrawal by a pulling tool. The guard plate is removably locked in place by a ball in a hole across the body-plate interface, held therein by a dowel and set screw in a hole which opens to the end face of the lock body and is concealed by the fifth wheel bearing pad on the trailer when the locking device is in place.

摘要： A padlock having a heavy cable shackle of selected length, constructed to provide good lock security. Identical long cable end pieces are received in parallel bores in a pad lock case and extend into a lock cavity formed by three overlapping parallel bores. The shackle-heel end piece is rotatably fixed in its bore by a heel plate engaged in a retaining groove of the piece and secured against the cavity end wall by a taper-head screw on the axis of one of the cavity bores. The shackle toe end piece is releasably dead-locked in its bore by a toe tumbler or bolt engaged in a retaining groove of the piece and slidably held against the cavity end wall by a retaining plate, which carries a throw assembly rotatable on the axis of the central cavity bore. The retaining plate has one end engaged in a supporting groove in the case and is supported at the other end, and held in the groove, by a plug rotatably locked in one cavity bore and held against removal by an 8-shaped key-actuated lock core received in the other two cavity bores.

THE CABLE HEEL PIECE IS PERMANENTLY BUT ROTATABLY SECURED IN THE LOCK CASE BY INTERENGAGEMENT INSIDE THE CASE WITH A SHACKLE PLUG WHICH IS INSERTED WITH THE HEEL PIECE FROM THE REAR AND THEN TURNED TO BAYONET LOCKED ENGAGEMENT ITH LUGS IN THE CASE, INSERTION OF A LOCK CORE BLOCKS RELEASE OF THE SHACKLE PLUG. THE CABLE TOE PIECE IS RELEASABLY SECURED BY A SLIDABLE BOLT. A BOLT RETAINING PLATE IS FORCED INTO, AND RETAINED IN A SUPPORTING GROOVE BY A CAM ON THE SHACKLE PLUG AS SUCH PLUG IS INSERTED, AND THE PLATE THEN BRACES THE PLUG IN SECURE ENGAGEMENT WITH THE CABLE HEEL. TO PROVIDE DEAD-BOLT CARBON THE BOLT IS ACTUATED BOTH FOR LOCKING AND RELEASE BY A THROW MEMBER CONTROLLED BY KEY OPERATION OF THE LOCK CORE.
