Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method for detecting high impedance faults in electrical power lines using a composite high impedance fault detection system having a voter logic that samples the logical outputs from a plurality of independent high impedance detection systems and determines a high impedance fault if any two of the plurality of independent high impedance detection systems indicates a high impedance fault. Preferably, the plurality of high impedance detection systems include a wavelet based high impedance fault detection system having a first logical output, a higher order statistics based high impedance fault detection system having a second logical output, and a neural net based high impedance fault detection system having a third logical output. Preferably, each of the plurality of high impedance fault detection systems includes an independent high impedance fault detection application that independently detects a high impedance fault on the electrical power line.
Abstract:
In a method for estimating the residual life of machinery statistically by calculating conditional expectations, it is disclosed that different statistical approaches are required for defining the behavior of failure processes related to repairable and non-repairable systems and that diagnostic information should be combined with event information to significantly improve the accuracy of predictions.
Abstract:
Waveform information is transmitted from the ends of a protection zone by first compressing the information using a lossy compression technique such as wavelets and then compressing the lossy compressed waveform information using a loss-less compression technique such as the Burrows-Wheeler transform. Status information is transmitted from the ends of the protection zone by compressing that information using the loss-less technique. The time for transmission can be less than, equal to or greater than the time for one cycle of the power line frequency.
Abstract:
A controller to provide base level fiber orientation control of a paper web. The controller achieves one or more indices that are derived from the online measurements of a fiber orientation sensor of the fiber ratio and the fiber angle. The indices are used for control of the sheet forming processes. The controller may be implemented by a single or multi stage fuzzy controller or the combination of fuzzy controllers with non-fuzzy logic controllers.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a three-stream atomizing nozzle for use with a rewet shower. The nozzle has an air stream divider that separates the atomizing air from the source into three streams. The first stream is a straight air stream staying closest to and around the atomized water jet. The second stream is a swirl running around the first straight stream. The third stream is also a straight stream that wraps around the first straight stream and the second swirl. The nozzle also has a mixing chamber in which the three air streams are mixed together for the atomizing purpose. The nozzle can from the combination of the three air streams produce fine water droplets that are suitable for a paper rewet shower and more importantly creates a tailorable water mass profile. The mass profile can be tailored into a shape that is close to a square shape which is ideal for rewet showers as a square profile creates minimal coupling between adjacent zones.
Abstract:
A method of securing magnetizable inserts within cores of an electric converter includes placing an assembly of rotor cores in a transfer molding press, the magnetizable inserts being disposed within cavities of the rotor cores and the cavities of the rotor cores being in fluid communication, placing a polymer preform proximate a central portion of the assembly of rotor cores, displacing the polymer preform such that the polymer preform changes state and flows radially and then axially through each of the cavities of the rotor cores, removing the assembly of rotor cores from the transfer molding press, and removing polymer waste from the assembly of rotor cores.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is generally directed toward a method of assembling a plurality of rotor cores for an electric converter. The method includes placing, by a core robotic system employing force control feedback, a rotor core on a mandrel, and for each of the plurality of rotor cores, placing, a plurality of magnetizable inserts into a plurality of cavities in the rotor core by an insert assembly robotic (IAR) system employing force control feedback.
Abstract:

The conveyor platform is operable to move the central robot within the cell. The central robotic system and the one or more auxiliary robotic systems are configured to perform a plurality of rotor manufacturing processes on at least one rotor component in coordination with one another, and the central robotic system is configured to transfer the at least one rotor component between one or more rotor manufacturing processes of the plurality of rotor manufacturing processes.
Abstract:
An end of arm tool (EOAT) for use with a robotic end effector includes radially opposed gripper fingers secured to a distal end portion of the robotic end effector, each radially opposed gripper finger having a recess with a first sidewall and a second sidewall oriented at an acute angle relative to the first sidewall. The radially opposed gripper fingers are configured to translate radially to grip a part within the recesses and to release the part for placement in an assembly.
