Abstract: Techniques are provided for combining different types of reference signals. A wireless communications network may be configured to allow a user equipment (UE) to combine multiple demodulation reference signals (DM-RSs) to support demodulation of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), and/or other downlink transmissions, transmitted from a base station to the UE. The base station may provide explicit signaling that reference signals transmitted in two or more transmission time intervals may be combined, or a determination that reference signals transmitted in two or more transmission time intervals may be combined may be made implicitly based on system configuration and previous transmissions. Based on the explicit signaling and/or implicit determination, a UE may combine reference signals included in each of two or more reference signals for use in demodulation of downlink transmissions.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for using a signal to wake up a user equipment (UE) that is in a low-power mode in a synchronized wireless communication system operating a shared radio frequency spectrum band. Once a base station wins a contention for a transmission opportunity in the shared radio frequency spectrum band, the base station may transmit a single signal before the transmission opportunity. After receiving the signal, the UE may begin monitoring for control information (e.g., control resource sets) associated with slots in the transmission opportunity. If the control information indicates that the content of the slot is for the UE, the UE may monitor the slot for its content.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A first method may include receiving at a user equipment (UE) over an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band an indication of a time window associated with a transmission of a synchronization signal, and monitoring the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during the time window to receive a synchronization signal from a base station. A second method may include transmitting an indication of a time window associated with a transmission of a synchronization signal; performing a plurality of clear channel assessments (CCAs) on an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band during the time window; and transmitting the synchronization signal over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band at a transmission time during the time window. The transmission time may be based at least in part on a result of at least one of the CCAs.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide methods for wireless communications by a base station and a user equipment in a network. An exemplary method generally includes performing a discovery procedure to identify one or more devices through which the UE may indirectly communicate with a base station in the network and deciding based on one or more criteria whether to communicate with the base station directly or to communicate with the base station indirectly via a device identified by the discovery procedure. According to certain aspects, when a UE is in communication with a network indirectly, the network might page the UE directly, indirectly, or both.

Abstract: Resource mapping and coding schemes to handle bursty interference are disclosed that provide for spreading the modulated symbols for one or more transmission code words over more symbols in the time-frequency transmission stream. Certain aspects allow for the modulated symbols to be based on bits from more than one code word. Other aspects also provide for re-mapping code word transmission sequences for re-transmissions based on the number of re-transmissions requested by the receiver. Additional aspects provide for layered coding that uses a lower fixed-size constellation to encode/decode transmissions in a layered manner in order to achieve a larger-size constellation encoding. The layered encoding process allows the transmitter and receiver to use different coding rates for each coding layer. The layered encoding process also allows interference from neighboring cells to be canceled without knowledge of the actual constellation used to code the interfering neighboring signal.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for wireless communication are described. A method may include receiving at a user equipment (UE) a number of allocated interlaces for an uplink transmission over a shared spectrum, each of which may include a plurality of non-contiguous resource blocks (RB) of the shared spectrum. In some cases, the number of allocated interlaces is unsupported by joint interlace precoding hardware of the UE and the allocated interlaces may be partitioned into subsets of interlaces which may be a size supported by the joint interlace precoding hardware. Reference signals may be generated for the RBs of the allocated interlaces according to a reference signal sequence based on an ordering of the RBs for the allocated interlaces within the shared spectrum.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for frame-based initiator device operations. A wireless device may be operating within a frame-based equipment communications system, where a frame may include a channel occupancy time period and a minimum idle period. An initiating device may be configured to initiate autonomous uplink communications during the channel occupancy time period of its frame, while the device may not initiate communications during an idle period of its frame. In some cases, a frame-based equipment communications system may include more than one initiating device, where the idle periods for different initiating devices may occur at different times. In some cases, the initiating device may be configured to initiate communications during the idle period for another initiating device. This may allow the wireless system to decrease system overhead associated with a minimum idle period per frame.

Abstract: A medium reservation framework is disclosed for coexistence of coordinated and uncoordinated wireless networks in licensed spectrum and shared spectrum. The proposed medium reservation framework organically takes into account operating regimes with different numbers of Tx/Rx antennas per node, provides flexibility in trading off medium contention aggressiveness and power saving, leverages the inherent synchronization nature of NR, and covers both coordinated and uncoordinated operation scenarios. Various aspects of the medium reservation framework may be centered on one or more combinations of some basic building blocks, such as an operation grid, synchronization signals, and reservation messages, such as a reservation request signal (RRQ) and one or more a reservation response signals (RRS).

Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The UE identifies properties associated with reference signals of a received payload. The properties associated with reference signals of the received payload may include a reference signal structure and/or a traffic to pilot ratio. The UE determines a payload structure based on the identified properties. Subsequently, the UE decodes the received payload based on the determined payload structure. The UE may receive mapping information indicating a mapping between possible properties associated with reference signals and possible payload structures. The UE may determine the payload structure further based on the received mapping information. The UE may receive the mapping information through a broadcast or RRC signaling.
