Abstract: An electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface displays a first user interface of a first application. The device detects a first input by a first contact on the touch-sensitive surface that meets navigation-gesture criteria requiring that the first input includes a movement of the first contact across the touch-sensitive surface that crosses a boundary of a predefined edge region of the touch-sensitive surface in order for the navigation-gesture criteria to be met. In response, the device: in accordance with a determination that the first application is not protected, ceases to display the first user interface of the first application and displays a respective other user interface on the display; and in accordance with a determination that the first application is protected, maintains display of the first user interface of the first application without displaying the respective other user interface.

Abstract: An electronic device with a display, a touch-sensitive surface, and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface: displays a first user interface that includes a plurality of selectable objects; while a focus selector is at a location that corresponds to a respective selectable object, detects an input that includes detecting a contact on the touch-sensitive surface; and in response to detecting the input: in accordance with a determination that detecting the input includes detecting an increase in intensity of the contact that meets intensity criteria, displays a menu that includes contact information for the respective selectable object overlaid on top of the first user interface; and in accordance with a determination that detecting the input includes detecting a liftoff of the contact without meeting the intensity criteria, replaces display of the first user interface with display of a second user interface.

Abstract: A value of a display property of an affordance changes based a value of the same display property of the portion of content over which the affordance is displayed. The value of the display property of the affordance is constrained to vary within a second value range smaller than a first value range over which the value of the display property of the content is permitted to vary. A decrease of the value of the display property of the content causes an increase of the value of the display property of the affordance based on the magnitude of the value change for the content and the second value range. An increase of the value of the display property of the content causes a decreases of the value of the display property of the affordance based on a magnitude of the value change for the content and the second value range.

Abstract: The method for manipulating a cursor is performed at a portable multifunction device with one or more processors, memory, and a touch screen display. Initially, content of an electronic document is displayed on the display, where a cursor is displayed within the electronic document. Two substantially simultaneous touch inputs are then detected on the touch screen display, and preferably anywhere on the touch screen display. In response to detecting the two substantially simultaneous touch inputs, a portion of the content in the document closest to the cursor is selected, and the portion of the content is displayed as selected content.

Abstract: An electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface displays a user interface of an application. The device detects a first portion of an input including a contact on the touch-sensitive surface, and then detects a second portion of the input including movement of the contact across the touch-sensitive surface. The device displays, during the movement, application views including an application view that corresponds to the user interface of the application and another application view that corresponds to a different user interface of a different application. In response, the device, upon determining that application-switcher-display criteria are met, displays an application-switcher user interface, and upon determining that home-display criteria are met, the device displays a home screen user interface that includes application launch icons.

Abstract: An electronic device has a home button that is available in a plurality of different contexts to dismiss user interfaces in response a first type of input. The device detects a first input of the first type directed to a displayed first user interface. In response, the device determines whether user interface tactile outputs are enabled. If so, the device performs a first operation and provides a corresponding first tactile output. If not, the device performs the first operation and forgoes providing at least a portion of the corresponding first tactile output. After performing the first operation, the device detects a second input of the first type on the home button. In response, the device performs a second operation that is associated with the home button and provides tactile output that is associated with activation of the home button, regardless of whether user interface tactile outputs are enabled.
