Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for user equipment (UE) positioning are disclosed based on a coverage enhancement level or internal signaling delay for the UE. In one embodiment, a method at a UE may include receiving a request capabilities message from a server, determining one or more capabilities of the UE, where the one or more capabilities include at least one of information for at least one internal signaling path of the UE or information for a coverage enhancement level of the UE, sending a first response message to the server, where the first response message includes the one or more capabilities of the UE, receiving a request for location measurements from the server based at least in part on the one or more capabilities of the UE, obtaining the location measurements, and sending a second response message to the server, where the second response message comprises the location measurements.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed herein for supporting periodic or triggered location of a user equipment (UE) using Early Data Transmission (EDT). A location server (LS), such as a 5G LMF, sends a request to a UE for periodic or triggered location and includes a request and/or criteria for using EDT. After confirming the request, the UE monitors for periodic or triggering events and, for each detected event, sends an event report to the LS which may include location information. In embodiments, the UE establishes a signaling connection with a RAN node but not with a core network to send the event report using EDT. The RAN node may then release the signaling connection, either immediately or after the LS returns a single response to the UE.

Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed to position determination of a user equipment (UE) in an asynchronous wireless network, such as a 4G or 5G network. In one embodiment, a base station measures real time differences (RTDs) to neighboring base stations and a Round Trip signal propagation Time (RTT) to the UE and receives Reference Signal Time Difference (RSTD) measurements from the UE, whereby a location of the UE is determined using the RTD measurements, RTT measurement and RSTD measurements. In other embodiments, the UE may obtain the RTT and RSTD measurements and may receive RTD measurements from a base station, whereby a location of the UE is determined by the UE or by a location server.

Abstract: Protocols for location services are disclosed. For example, a method for a positioning protocol for first and second devices may comprise, at the first device: creating a message for the protocol at the first device, where the message comprises a set of included parameters from a plurality of allowed parameters, encoding the message by embedding each of the included parameters in an encoded string, and transmitting the encoded message to the second device. Similarly, a method for such a positioning protocol may comprise, at a second device receiving a message for the protocol transmitted by the first device, where the message comprises the included parameters, with each included parameter embedded in an encoded string, and decoding the message by decoding a subset of the plurality of included parameters and omitting decoding of included parameters that are not in the subset.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for supporting location and emergency calls for an over-the-top (OTT) service provider are disclosed. A UE may send a request for an emergency call to an OTT service provider and may include in the request mobile network operator (MNO) data for a serving MNO for the UE. The OTT service provider may forward the emergency call request to an Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The IMS may determine routing information for the emergency call and either return the routing information to the OTT service provider to enable the OTT service provider to route the emergency call to a public safety answering point (PSAP) or may route the emergency call itself to the PSAP. The call request routed by the IMS or by the OTT service provider may include a reference identifier that may enable the PSAP to obtain a location for the UE from the IMS.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented for obfuscating the locations of terrestrial wireless transceivers, including wireless access points and femtocells. According to some embodiments, a method may receive, by a mobile device, data for a terrestrial wireless transceiver, wherein the data includes location coordinates of the terrestrial wireless transceiver, and wherein the location coordinates include an error term. Additionally, the method may include determining the error term based on the data. Furthermore, the method may include determining a corrected location of the terrestrial wireless transceiver by removing the error term from the location coordinates. In some instances, the data can further include a unique identifier associated with the terrestrial wireless transceiver, and wherein the error term is further determined based on the unique identifier.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may enable more accurate location of a user equipment (UE) that may be subject to movement or velocity. The UE may obtain, during a period of time, location-related measurements of RF signals received at the UE, where the location-related measurements are indicative of a location of the UE during the period of time; The UE may also obtain, using sensors of the UE, velocity-related measurements indicative of a movement or velocity of the UE during the period of time. The UE may send the location-related measurements and the velocity-related measurements to a location server, which may compute a location of the UE based on the measurements. The location computation may allow for movement of the UE during the period of time.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for providing location services for user equipment (UE) devices in a radio access network (RAN) such as a Fifth Generation (5G) RAN. Location services may be supported by separate positioning domains that may include a Device to Device domain, a RAN domain and a core network (CN) domain. The RAN domain may include a location server function (LSF) that may support positioning services autonomously within the RAN or in collaboration with a D2D or CN domain. The CN domain may include a location server (LS) that may support control plane and/or user plane location. The RAN domain may enable high volume and low latency location service whereas the CN domain may enable high accuracy service and services for external clients.
