Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains application data captured by an intermediate node in a network by inserting monitoring code into traffic associated with one or more online applications accessible via the network. The device identifies, based on the application data, a workflow of actions performed by a user of the one or more online applications. The device determines that a particular stage of the workflow is associated with a quality of experience metric for the one or more online applications being degraded. The device provides a recommended change in the network for presentation by a user interface that is expected to optimize the quality of experience metric for the one or more online applications.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device makes a determination that user application experience is degraded for a client endpoint of an online application due to a current path in a network that conveys application traffic associated with the online application. A device identifies a bypass path in the network for the application traffic. The device provisions an optimization gateway along the bypass path to forward the application traffic from the client endpoint to the online application. The device causes an endpoint agent executed by the client endpoint to send the application traffic to the optimization gateway for forwarding to the online application via the bypass path.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains call transcripts from an online application. The device detects cues within the call transcripts that are indicative of poor user experience. The device generates, based in part on the cues detected within the call transcripts, a model trained to predict poor user experience from network path telemetry for the online application. The device causes traffic for the online application to be routed along a particular network path, based on a prediction by the model.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains telemetry data associated with application traffic for an online application. The device identifies, based on the telemetry data, a network path as potentially exhibiting transient events during which a performance metric of the network path is degraded that are undetected at a first probing frequency for the network path. The device determines a new probing frequency for the network path, to detect the transient events. The device causes probes to be sent along the network path according to the new probing frequency.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains, from a plurality of routers in a network, a set of routing policies that collectively specify a first set of paths in the network, a second set of paths in the network, and time periods during which traffic is to be rerouted from one of the first set of paths to one of the second set of paths in the network. The device identifies overlapping path segments of the second set of paths in the network. The device makes, based in part on the overlapping path segments, a prediction that two or more of the set of routing policies will cause congestion along paths with overlapping path segments. The device adjusts, based on the prediction, the set of routing policies, to avoid causing the congestion.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device classification service uses feature vectors that represent how frequently one or more traffic features were observed in a network during different time windows to train a cascade of machine learning classifiers to label one or more devices in the network with a device type. The service receives traffic features of traffic associated with a particular device in the network, and then uses the cascade of machine learning classifiers to assign a device type label to the particular device based on the traffic features of the traffic associated with the particular device. The service initiates enforcement of a network policy regarding the device based on its device type based on the device type label assigned to the particular device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains behavioral metrics for application traffic in a network for a plurality of applications. The device identifies a first application and a second application from among the plurality of applications as fate sharing applications, based on a correlation between the behavioral metrics for their application traffic. The device generates a configuration change for the network that would prevent the first application and the second application from being fate sharing applications, when application traffic for the first application negatively affects the behavioral metrics for the application traffic of the second application. The device causes the configuration change to be implemented in the network.
