An Audio Codec which comprises a power selecting circuit an audio compiler circuit and a control amplifier circuit. The power selecting circuit receives at least a primary power source and an auxiliary power source and outputs a working power selected from the power sources. The auxiliary power source is selected and output to the control amplifier circuit only when the computer is at a power-off status. When the computer is power-on, the primary power source will be selected and output to both the audio compiler circuit and the control amplifier circuit. Therefore, the Audio Codec of the present invention only needs one set of internally furnished control amplifier circuit to both operate on the normal power-on status and perform the Power OFF CD function.

A preamplifier of a b-th amplifying terminal divides the audio input signal into positive and negative portions to preamplify the positive and negative portions. A power supply supplies first through M-th positive and negative voltages having different levels. A power amplifier selects a positive supply voltage having a level proportional to a level of the preamplified positive portion and a negative supply voltage having a level proportional to a level of the preamplified negative portion and again amplifies the preamplified positive and negative portions using the selected positive and negative supply voltages to be combined by a signal synthesizer as the audio output signal.

In a signal processing system with an IC having an intrinsic signal provided at a pin of the IC, a first operational function (de-emphasis) for the signal is provided at the pin, and further along in the signal flow path, a second operational function (variable attenuation) for the signal is provided within the IC. An extrinsic signal is switchably coupled to the pin so that the second operational function can be used to operate on the extrinsic signal. The second signal is coupled to the pin at a low source impedance so that when the second signal is switched to be operational, the first operational function is defeated, and the first signal is severely attenuated. When the circuit is switched to not couple the second signal to the pin, the coupling path for the second signal and the low source impedance are both removed, thus restoring the first operational function and the first signal at the pin of the IC.

An amplifier system comprises an amplifier, a comparator connectable to the amplifier to compare an incoming signal with a number of reference potentials. A switching stage is controlled by the output of the comparator and arranged to select a voltage level to be applied to one side of a load, such as a loudspeaker system. A subtractor is included to subtract from the incoming signal a percentage of the selected voltage level to be applied to the load. The amplifier receives the output signal of the subtractor, amplifies that signal and applies it to a second side of the load. There is also disclosed a method for amplifying a signal.

An improvement to inventor's prior art loudspeaker crossover filter invention is described. A substantially flat network input-impedance characteristic across the audible frequency range is provided by the addition of at least one series connected constant resistance network at the input terminals of the crossover filter system. By relaxing certain infinite slope filter parameters, more uniform acoustic polar response of the loudspeaker system is obtained. Specifically, infinite slope methods are used for the upper (higher frequency) band-edge of low-pass and band-pass filters, and optionally, for high-pass filters. Infinite slope characteristics, however, are relaxed for the lower frequency slope of band-pass filters and, optionally, for high-pass filters. In addition, the crossover network uses fewer components than infinite slope crossovers of the prior art.

The second securing assembly may be a receptacle formed in top surface of the speaker. The foot is inserted into the receptacle. The foot and receptacle are magnetically coupled to attach the amplifier to the speaker. The foot has a first electrical connector, and the receptacle has a second electrical connector mated to the first electrical connector to route the audio signal from the amplifier to the speaker.

An audio amplifier system includes two amplifiers that are configured to drive loads through either DC or AC coupling. A third amplifier provides an AC ground return when the system is configured in the DC coupled mode, and is disabled when the system is configured in the AC coupled mode. A bypass circuit charges a bypass capacitor to provide a reference voltage level for the amplifiers. A mode detection circuit monitors the reference voltage level and the output of the third amplifier to determine the current operating mode. The third amplifier is disabled when the reference voltage exceeds the output of the third amplifier or when a shutdown condition is activated, such that the third amplifier is protected from short circuit conditions. The charge and discharge times of the bypass capacitor relate to the detected operating mode minimize click and pop in the amplified signals.

A circuit and method of providing an auto-on and/or auto-off capability for an audio device, of a type having an audio plug which mates with the output jack of an audio source. The portable transmitter modulates audio signals from the audio source onto a carrier and transmits them to a receiver. The auto-on and auto-off capability is provided to prolong battery life and degradation of the transmitter circuit and comprises pinching off a FET when the circuit is in an “off” state. This occurs when a pre-determined threshold in a capacitor is reached by not discharging that capacitor. The capacitor is discharged by dropping a comparator input below a pre-determined threshold limit when presented with an audio peak and wherein the drop in value causes the comparator output to go low, causing the capacitor to discharge and causing the FET to supply power to the regulator.

An interchangeable amplifier device includes an amplifier cabinet. The amplifier cabinet has a bottom side, a top side and enclosing side walls for housing the amplifier electronics. The enclosing side walls have a front wall and a back wall. The front wall of the cabinet has a volume control and a power switch. The back wall of the amplifier cabinet has an audio port and an AC power supply cord. The audio port has a plurality of speaker terminals and a plurality of input jacks for receiving audio input for transmission to the stereo speakers. An upgradable power board with at least four flat leads may be plugged into an upgrade slot connector found along the back wall of the amplifier cabinet. The upgradable power board receives a first voltage of input from a transformer when plugged into the upgrade slot connector. The upgradable power board, when plugged in, will resupplying the amplifier with a second voltage of a magnitude greater than the magnitude of the first voltage. Further provided is a sliding bracket assembly to which the upgrade slot connector is coupled. The sliding bracket assembly has a first orientation with the upgrade slot connector situated adjacent a plurality of openings formed in the cabinet for allowing access thereto and a second orientation with the upgrade slot connector positioned distant the openings adjacent the front wall of the cabinet for storing the upgradable power board entirely within the cabinet.
