Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for muting positioning reference signals. In aspects, a location server sends, to a user equipment (UE), a plurality of positioning reference signal configurations and one or more positioning reference signal muting configurations associated with a transmission-reception point (TRP) identifier (ID) and/or a positioning reference signal ID. A first TRP sends, to the UE, a command triggering at least one positioning reference signal muting configuration, wherein the triggered positioning reference signal muting configuration indicates that: the one or more positioning reference signals of the one or more positioning reference signal occasions of at least one positioning reference signal configuration are not being transmitted, or the one or more positioning reference signals of the one or more positioning reference signal occasions of all of the plurality of positioning reference signal configurations are not being transmitted, and mutes positioning reference signals according to the triggered positioning reference signal muting configurations.

Abstract: Latency in location of a user equipment (UE) is reduced by requesting and scheduling the location of the UE in advance of the time of when it is needed. A positioning request from an external client or the UE may indicate the time that the location is to be determined or measured. A location management function (LMF) may manage and coordinate location measurements for the UE prior to the location determination time. The LMF may schedule downlink and/or uplink measurements to be performed at the desired time. Either the LMF or a location server associated with a serving base station for the UE may be assigned to receive positioning measurements and obtain the location of the UE. The location server or LMF may send the location to the UE or the external client. User plane transport may be used to further reduce latency.

Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for UE positioning are described. In some embodiments, a UE is configured to perform positioning measurements according to capabilities of the UE. Over time, the capabilities may change. Based on a change, the UE reports, to a location server, an indication that the capabilities have changed. This indication can include updated capabilities information or an error related to previously reported capabilities information and/or availability of the updated capabilities information. In turn, the location server may indicate, to the UE, updated assistance data and/or a request for updated location information, such that next position measurements performed by the UE may be based on the updated assistance data and/or the request.

Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed to improving the positioning of a target user equipment (UE) using an enhanced repeater disposed in a wireless network. In some embodiments, the enhanced repeater may include logically distinct user equipment (UE) functionality and distributed unit (DU) functionality. The UE functionality may enable setup with other entities of the network, e.g., an upstream location management function (LMF), such that the enhanced repeater is recognized as capable of positioning. The DU functionality may enable generation of downlink positioning signals (e.g., DL-PRS) at the enhanced repeater so as to obviate relaying of DL-PRS generated elsewhere in the network. The enhanced repeater may perform uplink measurements based on uplink positioning signals receive from the target UE, and report the uplink measurements to the LMF, enabling the L1VIF to calculate the position of the UE with fewer errors than if the uplink positioning signals were simply relayed.

Abstract: The location of a user equipment (UE) is determined at a scheduled location time based on location measurements for the UE received from one or more other entities. The location measurements are obtained at a plurality of times based on the scheduled location time. An uncertainty of the location that indicates a difference between the location and an actual location of the UE at the scheduled location time is determined and the location and the uncertainty of the location are sent to a requesting entity. The uncertainty of the location is based on a location uncertainty and a time uncertainty relative to the scheduled location time, which are combined into a single location uncertainty.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed herein for efficiently supporting broadcast of location assistance data (AD) in a wireless network to assist in locating a user equipment (UE). A location server (LS) may send some location AD, which may be optionally ciphered, to base stations for broadcast in cells supported by the base stations. Capability information provided by a UE to the LS indicating a level of support by the UE for receiving broadcast AD and supporting ciphering may enable the LS to determine whether, and what type of, additional AD needs to be sent to the UE by point to point means. An LS may use capability information received from a large number of UEs to assist in determining the types of location assistance data to be broadcast and usage of ciphering.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining round-trip times (RTTs) between a user equipment (UE) and multiple base stations. In an aspect, the UE transmits an RTT measurement signal whose arrival time is measured by each of the base stations, and each of the base stations returns an RTT response signal whose arrival times are measured by the UE. In another aspect, the base stations each transmit an RTT measurement signal and the UE returns an RTT response signal. The receiver of the RTT measurement signal may include the measured arrival time in a payload of the RTT Response signal. Alternatively, the measured arrival time(s) of the RTT Measurement signal(s) and the transmission time(s) of the RTT Response signal(s) are sent in a separate message. The RTT signals can be wideband signals using low reuse resources.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) and a Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) Location Platform (SLP) support a SUPL positioning session for at least one uplink or uplink-downlink position method, such as uplink Angle of Arrival or multi-Round Trip Time. To support SUPL positioning for uplink or uplink-downlink position methods, the UE provides an identifier for a serving Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) and an identifier for the UE to the SLP in a SUPL message. The SLP may exchange positioning messages with a serving base station for the UE using the identifier for the serving AMF and the identifier for the UE. The exchange of positioning messages may enable the SLP to request the serving base station to instigate transmission of uplink positioning reference signals by the UE which may be a key enabler for an uplink or uplink-downlink position method.

Abstract: An external client requests the location of a UE using control plane signaling. The UE sends downlink location measurements, such as Reference Signal Time Differences, for a plurality of base stations (BSs) to a serving BS at a layer 1 or layer 2 protocol level and at first periodic intervals. The UE and the plurality of BSs send additional location measurements, such as receive time-transmission time differences, to the serving BS at second periodic intervals, which are longer than the first periodic intervals. The serving BS uses the additional location measurements and downlink location measurements to determine timing information, such as Real Time Differences, for the plurality of BSs. The serving BS determines the location of the UE using the downlink location measurements and the timing information at the first periodic intervals and sends the location to the external client using user plane signaling to reduce delay.
